Morn'n all

I rec'd the Garmin 2620 today.... and I'll tell ya ...what a great toy

I spent the better part of today.... driving round LI... getting lost on purpose...so this thing could 'recalculate' where I should go... and listen to "make a right turn in 30 feet"... and such...lol..

It's just tooooo frigg'n kewl....

I've never owned a GPS system... and I'm real sorry I waited this long to get one.

Best money I've spent in a long...long...long...time

Peace,
D

Congrats! Best money Santa ever spent was to buy my Garmin Street Pilot III a little more than a year ago

Just so you know, I was able to download a female voice with British accent from the Garmin site. It's probably available for you too!

Although, to be honest, after about a week you will probably turn off the voice option for good . . . .

Amazing thing about the GPS is that you think you know your way around your hometown, but it will end up showing you some fantastic short cuts you never knew existed!

It can give your speed because it knows where you are, and can calculate how long it takes you to travel a certain distance from one point to another.

Could you please post some pics of how it looks in your car?
I been thinking about getting one and wondered where it would look best.

The unit will work perfectly when it has clear reception of the satellites. However, when driving in an area with weak receptions (i.e. under the tunnel or surrounded by high rise), the speed sensor will send the speed signal to the GPS unit for it to calculate the movement of the car. Along with the internal gyroscope, it can accurately provide information regarding direction and movement of the car on the screen. This is especially useful in a city with an elaborate network of tunnels like Boston.

Let me correct the information in the post above this one about the differences between the Garmin units mentioned..

The difference between the 2610 and the 2650 is the speed sensor for dead reckoning.

The difference between the 2610 and the 2620 is the latter has a compact flash hard disk and is preloaded with the mapping software (Mapsource is not supplied for the computer)

The upcoming 2660 will be the speed sensing version of the 2620 (or putting it another way, the hard disk based version of the 2150)
