Scoop Insert

I just recently noticed that the insert on my 07 MCS was only partially open in the honey comb look. So I took off my scoop and removed the stock insert. I had some gutter guard laying around so I decided to use a litttle to make an open insert. Please give opinion Im debating on what to go for the Grill.

Scoop insert

Looks good
I hope it can stand up to the heat generated in that area.

I plan on changing it to stainless mess but it is a heavier expanded metal. I already noticed I need a differentt adhesive but I also utilized the 4 screw holes from factory insert. I plan on fabbbing molds for all three inserts and press forming them. I just did this while I was waiting for glue to dry on speaker enclosure. Thanks for the thumbs up

I can't see the cutter guard past the melted scoop. Get a fresh scoop then do an insert...painted black. Like the one MINI-Fini sells...

You should have painted the grill black with high temp rattle can paint to make it more subtle. I think I'm gonna dremel a few holes into my OEM piece. It definitely could use a few more openings

I just took the stock insert out and didn't put anything in its place. I didn't see a reason to. Just what are they trying to keep out of there?

ok I plan on painting it black or possibly a gunmetal. I have an insert there bc in my area there is alot of debris to get in there and since there will be a functioning ramair soon dont need critters in the air box. I did the entire insert in about 5 minutes once I found the screws i dropped aand glue to use. I will replace the deformed scoop when I do adequate heat protection. to prevent it from happening a 3rd time.

Its a whopping four screws to remove the insert. I never plan anything I'll notice something or be on this site notice on some elses car and have what I call an "Oooooh Shiny" moment and distract myself with that next thing you know theres 11 subwoofer enclosures 3 rear seat delete set ups and now grill/ scoop inserts molds. I am trying to get the shape I want bc once I get that its over to 50 ton press to pop out nice looking powder coated piesces. Im thinking of shaving the hood badge and embossing one in the upper grill when done.

I ordered the AEM intake it seems to be a good setup. I've used AEM in other builds and it includes the ducting from the scoop to intake box turbo heat shield. Hopefully Ill like it other systems appearf cheaper but when you look at the total package it actually is similiar if not cheaper.

Believe it or not, while driving through Raton Pass on the way to Colorado, a bird hit the front of my car and "poof", feathers everywhere. It wasn't until I got to Pueblo that I stopped for gas and went to see where the little guy impacted. Sure enough, he hit the leading left edge of my JCW carbon fiber scoop and slid right into the opening. Glad I had the mesh grill in place or no telling what my engine bay would have had in it!

I removed the plastic, used some standard chicken wire and painted it satin black. Its held in the back by glue (glue gun sticks). Looks good and it has ventilation. I will take a pic in a little bit.

There are no "functional" ram air for a turbo. The turbo sucks air.
