question about a vacuum/boost gauge

Hey guys,

First off, I am extremely new to NAM. I want to install a boost gauge before I start modding. I've searched all about people's choices on boost gauges, installation, etc.

However, I didn't run into any posts about people with a metric boost gauge, i.e. one that reads in bar. (1bar~14.5psi) I want one that reads in bar, and so far, after seeing how a lot of members like the autometer ultra-lites, I'm extremely tempted to buy the METRIC autometer ultra-lite vacuum/boost gauge seen here http://www.autometer.com/cat_gaugede...id=3286&sid=11

However the only problem I see with this is that it reads up to 2.0bar which is roughly 30psi. And seeing that the 30psi gauges "are not as sensitive/accurate as a 20psi gauge on a stock car or even one with a 15 pulley" I'm wondering if a metric boost gauge such as the one listed above would give the same problem?

I also can't find a vacuum/boost gauge that reads up to 1.5 bar (~22psi). Does anyone know of a vacuum/boost gauge that reads up to 1.5 bar? That would be ideal.

Thanks for the help guys.

Yes, you'll have the same precision problem whether the gauge is measuring 0-30 psig or 0-2.0 bar. The reason is that the boost readings that you're going to be seeing (between 0 and 1.0 bar) are crammed into less than 90 ° of needle sweep. So while the gauge is going to be measuring boost *accurately*, it really can't display the results with much *precision*.

It's like trying to use a cooking thermometer to take a child's temperature - even though the thermometer may go down to 95 °F, the difference between 98.6 °F and 102 °F will just be a few degrees of needle movement at most. That's why you're better off choosing a gauge with a range that closely matches the values you'll be seeing during operation.

The Autometer 0-20 psig gauge would be ideal, but like you, I can't find a gauge that has the equivalent range displayed in bar.

Awesome man. Makes perfect sense. I appreciate your help. I may just end up going with the metric gauge up to 2.0bar. It's more "british" After all, one day down the road, hopefully I will be pushing close to 2.0bar!

The autometer ultra-lite pro-comp series is probably the best match I've seen to the factory look.

If you don't care about matching the look how about this:

http://www.veisystems.com/bom-m.html

Say's it reads in 0.1 bar resolution.

Hmm, thanks for the suggestion, but I definitely like the ultra-lites look way better. I also want it to be analog and mechanical. I'm not sure if those are mechanical or electrical. But thank for the suggestion anyways!

Ended up buying the ultra-lite with PSI readings. (20psi gauge).
Bought the 18$ mounting cup too, so IIRC, i'll have to buy a longer screw to attach to the back of the tach, which hopefully i can find that from lowes or home depot.
