I know the MCS seats are supposed to be nice... they are just too flat to keep my skinny **** planted on hard cornering. So I put in a set of Corbeau CR-1s last night, in red of course (much closer to the car color than the photo suggests, never claimed photo skillz):

nice!
So what's the skinny? Do they slide like the originals? How's the seating position? Cost? etc?

MSFITOY nice seats!

Check out Peters Cobra's in Carbon Fiber

They're a snug fit but they hold you down well!

Here are some more Cobras

Corbeau has brackets to fit the MINI, so the seats just bolt in. You lose the tilt/slide function though, only having tilt/recline and forward/back adjustment. I am going to either have the local MINI dealer disable the light, or figure out how to do it myself, as I cannot locate a source for 3 ohm resistors.

The seats themselves are very comfortable, and fit me perfectly. Add in the sub $1K price and it works for me. I already have Corbeaus in my supercharged Mustang, so I was happy with their fit/finish/quality before ordering these. I also like the fact that the interior feels larger now, due to the seats being less bulky and thinner.

The seats are about the same height as the stock seats on their lowest setting. I have plenty of head room with my helmet on, though at 5' 10" I am not the longest person driving an MCS.

bigb,
They make a wide version of the CR-1 (for up to 40" waist) but no idea if they would fit in the Mini.

2cool, how tight a fit were the standard CR-1's? Thanks for the help.

Off topic (but(t) still kinda pertinent).
If anyone's looking to offload their now
no longer need MINI seats let me know.
My Volvo (a '78 with factory recaro's) would
really appreciate it! Grey or Black preferred...

Help re-coop those costs here......

Cris

Those are the Cobra Sportlines in the second picture, right? What are the waist measurements of those. Im a small person with a 29 in. waist and looking for a snug-fitting seat.

Here are some Cobras (from my post of April 19th):

My seats came in today. I decided on Cobra Daytonas and I had them made in black leather with silver leather inserts. Even though I still have the lapis blue back seats, I think the black/silver color combination doesn't look all that bad, especially since there is a lot of silver trim inside the car. I didn't weigh my new seats, but I can tell you that they are significantly lighter than the original seats.

I used a one (1) watt 3 ohm resistor soldered onto 20 gauge solid core copper wire. The airbag light did not go on.

All in all, it took the better part of four (4) hours to replace the seats. (There were hardware/mounting issues.)

Below are some pictures of the seats outside of the car, next to an original seat for comparison, the air bag wire -w- 3 ohm resistor, and finally, the seats installed in the car.

Oh, the seats feel great!

Nice seats guys.
I'd get some but I think I'm over my spending limit.
Found this picture of Red leather aftermarket seats.

I don't know what the going rate is but considering people steal airbags everyday some of you might be able to finance new seats buy selling your unused airbags to a parts / repair shop or on ebay. Just a thought.

You'd have to ask that question of your individual insurance agent/company but I think you would be covered. The main airbag is in the steering wheel and dash. The curtain and seat airbags are supplemental. When one disables the passenger airbag to eliminate the danger to a small passenger in the front you don't void your insurance per se.

If you don't wear your seat belt you don't void your insurance.

In your case of the leather wearing, if you rather keep the airbags then just cover the seat with a MINI cover or aftermarket cloth or leather cover. Or get a custom leather interior with some "real" quality soft leather in the color and pattern of your choice.

Yah, I would check with your agent first. Usually they are okay as long as
you have another car with an airbag...funny, but Statefarm does not
classify each car for the airbags. My hobby cars in the past did not have
airbags on the steering column, but had full coverage.

Now I am hearing other states (I am in IL) that are starting to mention
that they will not cover modified (or altered) cars, so you should double
check before you do it if you are worried.

If I was to change the seats, I would be driving around the streets
with my harness, so it would probably be safer than just an airbag and
the regular seatbelts.
