New updated interior...

Just finished installing my new interior. I purchased a used, 2008 MCS JCW and for the most part, it was built how I would have built it except for the interior. It had the basic grey interior with light grey headliner. Working with Dave Blake at MINI of Warwick, RI, Penske Automotive, I was able to source all of the parts needed to transform my plain interior to what it is now, rooster red colorline, JCW carbon trim, and anthracite headliner. Some of the carbon pieces were sourced elsewhere as they are not OEM MINI parts. Thanks Dave! This was not an easy project but well worth it for me.

Now, just waiting for a few little detail parts to complete headliner and a couple further carbon pieces. Everything light grey must be black.

Also, will be replacing my silver halo door trim pieces with the piano black pieces as soon as I have some free time this next week. Kind of like the contrast of the silver with the black, red, and carbon though I've already puchase the piano black pieces.

Thanks Drewster. Yeah, it wasn't cheap. Definitely much cheaper to do it from the factory but that is the problem with buying used.

The black carbon fiber covered MFSW spoke covers were purchased from New MINI Stuff.com http://www.newministuff.com/new/shop...uctshow&id=654

By the way, if anyone wants any of the removed light grey trim pieces, please PM me. Just pay for the shipping and PM me by Tuesday (my trash day) and they are yours. If I don't get any requests by then, they will be tossed out.

Very nice! Do you still have the piano black trim that you replaced with the CF trim? How much do you want for that?

The original dash pieces that came with my MINI were the brushed aluminun. I'll be listing those for sale in a few days along with a JCW leather shift **** with red stitching, JCW carbon fiber brake handle and JCW R105 wheels.

The interior trim pieces have been spoken for but let me know if you are interested in any of the above.

Best,

James

Did you install the red colorline dash? If so, how much are those pieces and was it easy to change your colorline to red?

I'm also thinking about changing mine but a little apprehensive about taking things apart. I've read and seen video that you may have to take out the speedo to change the dash. Is that true?

Yes, I installed the whole interior and for the most part, it was pretty easy. The colorline dash pieces are not that difficult to remove or install. As far as price, I went through Inskip MINI and they gave me a nice discount and the set cost me $52 and $56 for the driver's side and $120 for the passenger side. Each door armrest was $77. Not cheap but so much nicer than the standard cheap looking plastic original pieces.

I think drewster is talking about the actual buttons and not the cover plates that surround the buttons. Most in that year are silver.

Looks nice. I am doing a very similar theme in mine (except I found Piano black dash pieces on eBay from a factory JCW instead of the CF ones). I had the silver buttons but I ended up painting mine black to have more of a 2011 look (and they didn't come out half bad).

The piano black dash was my next choice but I like the look and quality of the JCW carbon dash and the nice contrast between it and the red and black of the dash. In fact, I have already purchased the piano black halos for the doors but after seeing the contrast between it and the red and carbon fiber, haven't made up my mind if I should change it out.

Regarding painting the buttons black, I wouldn't have gone this route as I want it to last me. I don't see how paint will not have to be redone at some point. Plus the buttons have symbols on them that light up. How did you mask the symbols of the buttons and paint around them? Post a photo of it if you can.

Loving it, looks pretty close to the WC50 interior. Ive found what I think is the last "new" WC50, and am in the process of getting it shipped out to the west coast. I wished the interior refresh had been fitted to the car, but I love what you've done to the steering wheel, it really help bring down the silver plastic bling!

In some of your images the CF on the wheel looks like a slightly different texture than the "stock" Mini CF. It may be a by-product of the camera, but do the textures match up? Ill have the OEM CF wheel bottom so it would be super important that it matches the black button CF side inserts for the wheel from newministuff.

Any thoughts, thanks in advance.......
Shawn

Thanks Shawn! The carbon fiber pieces for the MFSW controls from newministuff match pefectly to the JCW carbon pieces. I agree with you about the steering wheel. It is the one part of the interior that you see the most of, why not make it special? Why waste your time trying to paint any of the steering wheel pieces when you can get OEM that will last. Just my 2 centavos...

Very easy install, about 15 minutes start to finish. I found it easier to just remove the steering wheel and do the work than trying to do the work while the steering wheel is still attached.

What type of seats do you have. Mine has standard vinyl and I hate them. I like your cloth seats.

I have the standard MINI cloth seats. I couldn't agree with you more. The vinyl or leatherette, at least for me, are the most uncomfortable seats I have ever had the misfortune of owning. They were on my first MINI and I said never again.

I ordered the parts from the UK a little over a week ago. They arrived today in a small box that was nicely packed with bubble wrap. Total price in dollars was $270 with shipping plus my credit card charged me a $8.15 foreign transaction fee.

I suck at anything mechanical. I can take things apart but have difficulty putting it back together. I was able to do this install .

First remove the negative terminal from the battery. You will loose your trip info and will have to set the time when you replace the negative battery terminal after the install.

To remove the airbag you stick a long thin phillips screwdriver or a small 5mm allen key (use the long side) in the hole in the center column of the steering wheel. This will dislodge the airbag. I replaced the steering wheel inserts while the steering wheel was still attached. My main error was to use a 3mm allen key to remove the screws from behind the steering wheel inserts. WRONG... after doing some research on NAM and on Google, I saw a diagram on realoem.com that mentions the screws are 4x12mm torx. But I did not have that size so I used a 15mm torx bit to tighten the screws in both inserts.

I replaced the negative battery terminal and prayed that the airbag did not deploy and the MFSW controls all worked when I turned the car on. Much to my surprise all was well .

This little project took about one hour from start to finish to remove the old inserts and replace with the new CF MFSW controls.

The new CF steering wheel controls look awesome and really complete the look of the interior on my car.

Those are the MINI Urban floor mats. I got them at my local dealer but I think they can be found at Outmotoring.

My JCW originally came with the checkerboard mats but they just didn't do anything for me so I replaced them with these.

Nice work.

BTW, I'm selling the Rooster Red seats that match that interior. They even have the thin pin-stripe lines like in your mats. Downside is I'm a distance away.

How much are you asking for those seats?
