hi all
lost my info. on radio shack part# for the diode used
as the jumper between 1&4 connectors to get the extra
brake lite.

Unless you have or are planning on having the rear fog lights "installed", you do not need the diode. You can just use 16-18 gauge wire and simplify the process.

this change for USA? Any laws broken here?

I used the blue wire splicer to connect wires 1 and four as shown, but DID NOT cut the yellow number 1 wire. It works fine. What is the purpose of cutting the yellow wire? Am I risking damage by not doing so?

You don't need to cut any wires. If you use the diode, you can just stick the edges into the plug.

Earlier instuctions may have mentioned cutting wires, but you really don't need to. I'll you need to do is jumper the two wires...
