Clear Bra - Opinions/Suggestions/Advice
Ive been looking into 3M's clear bra for the from of my MCS. It already has 4-5 pretty good chips in the hood that Ive painstakingly filled with touch up paint, lightly sanded, then buffed out. I don't want to do any more of that...
My options are limited though. Option 1 - DONT DRIVE IT
Option 2 - Clear Bra
Looks like 2 wins. So my questions are, How much should i get covered, How expensive should it be, How does it look, Finally any suggestions on installers who do a good job.
I was quoted 560 for the front bumper and hood from a local installer with the 3M pre cut kit. I'm really not looking for that, the seams look cheap to me. I did see someone on you tube doing a 3M clear film on a MCS where they wrapped the whole hood and left no seams. Thats what i want.

I had the dealer do the upper and lower....seam in only visi ble if you look hard or of you don't clean the wax out of the tiny lip.....
It has worked great since I got it at delivery...new.
Having the entire hood seems a bit....er...aggressive...99% of the chips will be in the bottom 4 inches or so..
You could have you seats wrapped in clear covers to....

I would tend to agree with you Zippy, but i have 2 bad rock chips that are about 3 inches higher than my scoop on my hood. So rather than just covering half my hood, why not go ahead and do the whole thing...and the seams dont bother my eyes as much as my hands. I hate running my hand over a car and hitting a lip or raise...I realize its all personal taste

I've personally seen the work of Barry Merlo in the Cincinatti area. Top notch installer that stands behind his work. Definitely worth a call:

If you don't mind me asking....
- What all did you have done?
- What was the labor rate (or overall cost)?

I've had clear bra on all my cars for decades. Best money I ever spent because I can't stand looking at a bunch of paint chips. Also, it dramatically helps in resale value. Don't get the "kits". Find a installer who does the work for the dealerships and make a deal with him to do yours and maybe a few others in your area on a weekend. A good installer can do a full wrap and the kits leave areas uncovered that need to be covered. If you're in Eastern Wa State I can hook you up with the best installer I've ever worked with. He always does my hood, back about 2/3 of hood, lower front bumper, pillars, front 8" of roof, mirrors, under doorhandles, rear hatch lip and splash area in front of rear wheels. I pay $400 for this. I've had at least 12 cars he's done for me and never had any problems. When the 3m gets marks/dull you just wipe it down with alcohol and it looks like it was waxed. For you 4x4 guys, check out what they can do with the camaflage wrap and of course carbon fiber wrap.

Barry didn't do the work on my own car. I have actually seen him participate in multiple installation competitions. I am not sure what he charges, but I can vouch for the quality. If there is one thing that I have learned, it is to see examples of an installers work before signing off on anything. A good installer will have plenty of people to give testimonials.
