Interior/Exterior Driver's Outside Mirror Adjustment
Driver's Outside Mirror Adjustment
I know this has been mentioned in the year one thread and on the general talk thread but I though I might try a new thread to get some more feedback. My driver's side mirror will not tilt up sufficiently to provide a good view in the distance to the rear. I keep my seat all the way down and the mirror tilted up as far as it will go and I still find myself bending down to use the mirror. My dealer service department says this is the way it is designed and there is nothing they can do. I looked at another CM iln the showroom and the mirror seems to be about the same, though mine could be a little worse than some.
I feel this is a safety issue that needs to be addressed. Hopefully Mini will come up with something eventually but for now I would like to see what I can do myself. Does anyone know how to remove the mirror caps without breaking anything so that I could look inside and see what can be done?

My MA popped mine off to put on the BlackJacks. He pushed in around the bottom and they popped off. I'm not exactly sure where. I have the same problem and will stop up at the dealer later this week and get a lesson on popping. I'll let you know.

Here is a link to the 2nd Gen mods page for removing mirror caps.

Although I'd like to think I have a VERY unique car, most of the parts on the CM are borrowed form the 2nd Gen R56.
I have found most of my mod info over there, just be careful, the modding bug is very powerful and contagious!!

My experience with power mirrors - I've had a few over the years that have gotten stuck too far in one direction or the other. They seem to be designed with very forgiving plastic/nylon gears. I've just manually recentered them to correct the problem. Seems like, depending of how much travel you have, you could just adjust them all the way up and then manually push them an extra couple of clicks. If you have the caps off, you should be able to see how much play you have. Or just try it very carefully.
Good information on getting the caps off. I will try it this evening. As to manually moving the mirror I have been able to do that on other vehicles but in this case no-go. Hopefully there will be some simple internal mod that will change the angle a bit. Thanks all.
I just picked up my new Mini two days ago and noticed the exact same issue with the Driver's side mirror. The passenger mirror works fine, but the drivers mirror won't go up far enough. I've seen this mentioned in a few threads, but haven't seen where anyone found an actual solution. Has anyone found an adjustment that can be made externally or in the mirror housing?
