Side Markers

Couldn't wait for the aftermarket. They missed the boat on the colors. Not 100% happy with them but it'll do until the pros make some that are better.

Blacked out with a 6" Yellow LED Strip inserted.

Haha. Yeah. Autozone.com. This is a home job completely. I used a Dremel and removed the lens from the base. Painted the base black, stuck the led strip in and glued it back together. Then I used VHT spray tint to make them blck. IMO what would look the best and what I will try to accomplish on the next set is(MINI and aftermarket start paying attention here-->) black base with an LED strip in amber or white.

Second one. They looked really good until I sprayed the tint on. The stock single incandescent bulb at the bottom is just ugly. I love the slash shape, but they lit it like an old VW bug. Yuck.

Looking for better ideas!!!

Yes, it's a pain in the A**. But switching out the rest of the car was a breeze. I changed all of the door sill lights to blue and the interior to cool white and it looks amazing. The side markers look silly because the put the single bulb(1/2") all the way at the bottom of a 6" lens. If you want to change out the the sill and interior you need 4 for the sills, and 7 for the interior lights. It took me 10 minutes to swap all of the bulbs(not including the Side Markers). Here's the website for the LED bulbs. You want the first one on the list.

Well, I don't have the skills to do any better than you did on those side markers, but that was a great idea and find at Autozone. I'm sure others
will build on your idea and we can all at some point have sexy side scuttles.
Thanks for that link on the LED's, I was thinking of changing mine out, now I will for sure.

Did you have to remove the front fender trim? If so, what is the procedure?

I got a set of Chrome scuttles to replace the darker ones. Any helpful suggestions to replace them would be appreciated.

Thanks

Getting to them is very easy. Just pop the hood and take a look inside. The lights are the first mod I decided to tackle because they pop in and out so easily. I haven't removed the scuttles themselves, because mine are black and thats what I want, but is can't be too difficult. Lots a maneuvering room in that corner.

Side markers 1.2 & 1.3

Blacked out base, stock amber bulb, unlit(some condensation from paint, just need to take it off the car long enough to dry out)

Blacked out base, Stock amber bulb, lit

Blacked out everything, 6" yellow led, unlit

Blacked out everything, 6" yellow led, lit

Plus I finished the Beltline yesterday. Much better. Getting the Bezels painted soon.

Those look great up close. I may just try the tint first to give it the cool black out look, then later attempt a led mod.

Yep. They fit in the sockets with no modification and make a huge difference. They're also really cheap and make you wonder why they werent included. 2.45 a bulb I think. Less than $60 for all of above and will last for minimum 5yrs. I will probably do fogs and tail lights too, although those will be more expensive.

Did you black out your chrome strip around the car, or did it come like that?
