Interior/Exterior Armrest mod
Armrest mod
Before I installed the InvisilLens kit I attacked another smaller annoyance. The armrest is too high and prevents a good forearm to shfter angle. The real problem is that it will NOT swing completely out of the way and falls back down... ugh.
My E46M3 has the same issue after I installed a Rogue Engineering SSK. At least the BMW armrest folds completely away.
I removed the armrest by taking out the rear seat bolts and sliding it out. There are 2 allen bolts holding the hinge together. Taking it apart reveals a plastic cap with a "T" of plastic in it, carefully remove it with a knife and re-assemble. VOILA! The armrest will swing out of the way over 90 degrees AND stay out of the way. The metal stop that is welded onto the hinge will make a small indent in the plastic cover but that friciton holds the arm up out of the way.
Your shifts will be precise since your arm will move in a more natural way.
