Euro Parcel Shelf - What am I doing wrong?

I can't seem to get the screws to line up when installing my Euro Parcel Shelf into my 2006 R53. (See images)

I have the underside clips in place and followed Jason Lingoood’s writeup, but got stuck when trying to insert the screws. The left side screw will go in if I force the panel upwards and hold it in place, but the right side is not lining up at all, even if I push the shelf up to meet the dash.

Right side: http://cid-4a496c792b11dc45.photos.live.com/self.aspx/MINI%20Identification/07-28-10^_1800.jpg

Left side: http://cid-4a496c792b11dc45.photos.live.com/self.aspx/MINI%20Identification/07-28-10^_1800.jpg

What am I doing wrong?

You're doing nothing wrong. This is a very common problem experienced by a whole host of folks who've installed the EPS -- including me -- reported many times over the years here on NAM (do a search if you want corroborating evidence). I've tried a pin punch, knitting needle, tape, and other measures to line that bugger up, all without success.

Typical solution? Screw in the right-side screw even though it's missing the clip, declare victory, and be happy. That screw adds little, if any, support to the shelf anyway, and the left-side screw is fully able to keep the works in place. I've had my EPS in and out at least a half-dozen times over the past four years for gauge and lighting installs, etc. and have never had a problem just relying on the single left-side screw to keep the shelf in place.

Thank you for the reply, looks like it'll have to be the one screw method for me.

I got both of mine in but it was a pain. A little tape to hold the blue fasteners in place helps too.

I fixed the problem by using machine screws and wing nuts from the hardware store. Here's a link to my writeup

This is also the method I used. Every car out there needs at least one piece of duct tape holding it together. That's what uncle Red told me....

I actually had my shelf in without any of the screws. Never had any issues of it coming off or coming loose.
