Mini Alarm

Has anyone installed the Mini alarm system after they've purchased their Mini?

Is it a separate alarm remote, or is it wired to work with the remote that already came with the car?

I had the alarm system installed after I had the car 1 month. It works with the original key. No separate device.

FYI though if you have a 2010 cooper it cant be installed. I bought one last week for 200.00 from the dealer parts counter walked over the the MINI SA and they told me MINI has removed all excess wiring from the 2010's to save money so they cant install it. I then walked right back over to the parts counter and returned it. Its a great deal for all you get but unless you ordered it fromthe factory it cant be installed yet. My SA said MINI was looking into seeing if they can make it work but dont hold your breath.

+1

2007/2008/2009 it can be installed but on a 2010 it can not be added. Stupid MINI

Yep my mini is two weeks old and wanted to "youify" it. Turns out you cant anymore. Love my car but I am a little annoyed that I cant add the auto dimming mirror with out modifying the mirror and the car alarm was the last straw.

That being the case, what's up with the dealer-installed alarm listed on the configurator for $228?

It is only available as a factory installed option, not a dealer installed option. Hence its still on the configurator. I know for a fact the auto dimming mirror w/ homelink, the alarm and the nav system can only be installed at port or the factory not the dealer. The Nav install is if'y though, one of our NAM members is taking the plunge trying to do it.

The alarm is in the catalog also. It has 3 part numbers, so maybe they have a new one now? I will check with dealer I guess.

If you have an '10 and you find one they can install and program let me know. Its the best alarm deal out there for the mini and you get the led on the top of the tach to work.

It's a matter of one department not knowing what another is doing.

For years it was a dealer upgradeable item. But in 2010 the production department decided for money saving reasons to stop putting the wiring harness in the car unless the Alarm was Factory Installed. Even teh dealers did not know about this to begin with.

BTW hate to let you know "NOT everything you read on the internet is true"

Anyone know the amt of time that dealers need to install the alarm system in a 2009? I had no idea the parts is in the 200ish range!

I looked at the parts before I returned them and there are only a few and they are direct plug in. Given the amount of time it takes me to rip the whole interior out and the engine bay cowl I would guess 1.5 hours labor. They do have to program the car so if its a full rebuild or a quick flash I have no idea. Anything under 400.00 for the parts and install is a steal compared to having a stereo shop install a spiced in unit.

The $228 Price Tag you see in the Configurator is for the Alarm only NOT for Alarm & Installation. You will see the $500 Alarm also, this is the Alarm including Installation!!

Particularly if you're looking at a MINI web site. I think in addition to ditching "excess wiring" to save money, they've also sacked the folks responsible for maintaining their web sites. Interesting that they don't have any issues jacking up the prices in the Configurator, but they can't get someone to remove obsolete options (or update / fix the Owner's Lounge)...

Right... Just seemed like the logical thing to do would be to take it off the Configurator entirely if it wasn't available/compatible with the car you're having folks configure.

You can configure your car with it but once a vehicle leaves the factory it cant be installed at the dealer like the 2007-2009 models can.

I just saw this part on MINI's motoring accessories site:

65730443179

Do we 2010 Mini owners have hope-after-sales after all?

Maybe? The other two numbers listed were 50.00 dollars less than the number you provided that may be enough to make up for the missing wiring harness. Real oem.com didn't have that number posted as its from a new production date than what they have on record. The only thing we can do is call, does anyone have a mini parts guy that is top knotch? My guy at Irvine is pretty clueless. Good find I hope this pans out, I want the factory alarm.

I ordered what I thought would be a factory alarm system via the configurator, only to find out Mini has re-classified the system as a dealer-installed option and the dealers don't want to touch it. My dealership offered to have a third-party alarm system installed. No thanks.

I was refunded the $228, plus $272 installation, I had already paid.

That is exactly what I mean. Yes, its a BRAND NEW dealership and mine was their FIRST factory order for an individual, but that's what I heard from them and the regional service manager. The alarm system is NOW a dealer-installed option and the dealers want no part of it.

If the sales guy would have told me this, I would have ordered the alarm from the factory. I thought I can buy it after and get it installed. This is BS!
I have a 2010 John Cooper Works Mini and my tach has the light on top. Does that make a difference??

Hopefully that is correct for our vehicles. The kit will need to come with a partial wire harness to make it work. I haven't been able to get over to a mini dealership and ask about it yet but it is on my to do list. And no having a JCW or the light on the tach wont make any difference. Everyone still has the light and everyone is still missing the wiring.
