I've seen it once, the guy bought the car used, with it already done, the shop that did the install did a bit of a hack job so he had major leaking issues in even light rain. Gotta say it looks cool though. There is a MINI part # for one, I'll have to see if I can find it.

AC Schnitzer made a sliding canvas roof but you can't have the glass roof option and it was $2,000. I have seen them for sale just not fitted on anything but their showcar.

This is the OEM version. I've never seen one. Click for larger pictures.

It was on MotoringFile with installation instructions. I like the part where it says to put the template on the roof, then "Completely cut out and remove roof aperture".

I have driven one and amnthinking about it for my car. Really fun, but I do not know if it is worth the $$$, loss in resale and loss of rigidity.

Sure was cool though.

Hmm.. Cant have the glass roof option. Wonder why? Must be because of reinforcement issues

It's probably because of the track and everything that goes with the glass roof. I've got the glass roof, but would LOVE to have this. Have wanted it since 2002 when I ordered my car. Maybe I should buy another 1st gen MINI just to do this?

Hmm... Back in the mini truckin days, ive seen many different sizes of sliding rags, some coming a few inches from the edge of the roof, so im thinking there must be a way of doing it with the glass roof option, i mean, the whole glass track would be removed.

I would think so, but I was told that the Schnitzer version needed its own dimensions so maybe the OEM version is the easiest fitment.

The OEM version is not compatible with the glass sunroof either. See the installation PDF.

FYI, there is someone selling a sliding roof on the marketplace right now. It is a good price as well.
