Noob Question About Hard Wiring a Nav

Hey,

I want to hardwire a GPS baisically left hand on the dash. Reading various threads in regards to using the fuse etc I think I wanna go with the power take off that they offer an New mini stuff. Seems like it will be a bit cleaner result. Baisically my question has to do with the istall. There is a step by step guide on the site but its uncelr how to go from steps 2 to 3.

Is it simply a matter of unscrewing the drivers footwell panel then prying off the side of the centre console then feeding the wires through or does the entire console have to be removed?

Also does anyone know of a north american dealer who would sell a similar product to split power from the cig adapter.

Any help would be appreciated

HERE are the instructions from Motoringfile on how to install the dealer added NAV. Good info on what wires to use!

Hi there!

This is Matt, I do some control modules for Minis.
The NewMiniStuff tap system means you have to route the wires from that panel (drivers in UK, passenger here in the US) behind the center stack and the like to get it up there. It's a nice unit in that everything plugs in and is very reversable, and you don't have to cut up the cig adaptor plug from your nav unit.

At FES, we do things a little different. We tap into the fuse panel as needed with two types of add a fuse products. One goes over the leg of an existing fuse and gives you a 3/16" spade connector, the other actually plugs into the existing fuse location and allows you to use both the stock fuse and an extra for the new circuit. We then use a lug to connect the ground to one of the bolts for the junction box.

Either way will work, they both have thier plusses and minuses. FWIW, we do have a customer who has used the Auto Sportplus aux output controls for a permanant Valentine One install. There are lots of ways to skin the cat.....

Mike's stuff is typically well engineered and will do what you need, I honestly don't know how much work it is to route the wires.

Hope this helps,

Matt
