You open the gas cap and at the top in the back there is a small clip. As you pull or push the clip you turn the chrome counter clockwise. It should come off without a problem.

I searched for a long time too. I wish i had a picture it is much easier to explain.

1. open the gas cap.
2. With the gas cap open, there is a lip on the black peice that the chrome part is attached to. It is on the UNDERSIDE of the black platic lip. not the back wall of the black plastic.

Open Gas Cap -> {}=

the tab would be on inside bottom of the upper lip. Once you see it you'll say "D'oh"

I hope that helps

Do you push or pull the clip? Also, is it a counter clockwise turn or clockwise. In searching, I have found different interpretations of this. Many thanks in advance !

I don't remember if you pull or push lol but once you notice the clip you turn the chrome outside part of the cap upward (counter clockwise) and it should come off easily. At the bottom of the cap there is a little box but thats not the clip the clip is at the top of the inside under the edge. hope this helps!

awesome. Thanks. Maybe I'll do a quick write-up when I do it to clarify. Quite honestly, I haven't looked much at it yet so I am assuming that it should be pretty straight forward. I'll have the body shop mix up a few ounces and shoot it this weekend if they have a few minutes. Thank you again!

Yeah...I am actually getting used to belt line and the scuttle but the headlight and tail rings got body color and so will the gas cap. From a distance all I see is a gas cap so, I debated black and body color...quickly came to the conclusion that I wanted to go with body color.

Took the cap off today and this is extremely easy to do. The tab gets pulled down just a few millimeters to disengage the small tooth on the inside of the chrome cap. For those who might be wondering, you only turn the cap a few degrees counterclockwise to disengage. Once the screwdriver pulls the tab down a few mm...it more or less pops off. Very, very easy.
