Interior/Exterior R57 Wind Deflector
R57 Wind Deflector
Within the last two months, I purchased a factory wind deflector from Moss motors. It is black, simple and worked well. I then bought a new factory unit that has a chrome frame, a cute little lever to raise and lower the deflector and little storage spaces with a checkerboard pattern on the bottom. I find the old one functions better. It sits about an inch higher and for me lines up better with the top of the folded top in the rear view mirror, but the wife wants it. (2 R57's) Has anyone found a use for the two storage pockets? You have to be stopped to access them.
I paid too much, and whined about my Factory unit being lower than the Moss Motors 'factory' unit that my Wife has on her R57, but both work great. People who ride in them comment on how little wind there is. With the side windows down you will get paper flying out of the back seat on occasion, but the new factory units have those little zippered pouches in the horizontal panel that are perfect for holding misc paper you are carrying. Driving in a crosswind it is a good idea to keep the side windows up also.
Thanks for the info - I was going to ask the same sort of questions.
So having driven both with and without the wind deflector, you'd say it was worth the $400+ price tag?
Additional potentially stupid question, do you have to remove it to put the lid up, so to speak? Is it an inconvenience to store, or can you keep it in place?

They are worth it if you have the disposable income. They fold up and come with a storage pouch that easily fits in the boot. You don't have to take it off to put the top up. I only remove mine to carry someone in the back seat. I have gotten faster at working the fasteners to get it folded. The folding has been thought out well and is pretty neat.
Thanks for the info.
I am very tempted, and will probably get one soon enough. I saw one in the flesh the other day and thought it was pretty cool...
... although how would I dry my hair on the way to work?

I'd say it is well worth the money if you do extended driving at over 40 mph with the top down. For brief, slow speed trips around town, not as much. Personally I do not want to go top down at highway speeds without it. The other benefit is that it makes using the top down more comfortable in cooler temperatures. It effectively extends the hours and days suitable for putting the top down.

I have easily 2 hours of commute a day, both highway and twisty coastal roads - so do as much over 40mph driving with the top down as I can. Normally I bundle up with scarves and hats, but what I'll save on those, I'll use for this!
Thanks everyone
