May want to search some more...There are several threads about the "joey mod R56"

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...y-mod-r56.html

Theres a link to the thread specifically about joey modding anyways...I know where you are coming from I have wanted to attempt this as well.

The stick stuff holding the clear housing to the rear is in there good! People seem to be baking their housings at (dont quote me) 250F or 200F for about 6-8 minutes, and then prying them spart SLOWLY with a screwdriver at the seams. Itll be a slow moving process, but Ive heard it works.

I hope to see good results once you get this done!

Hey thanks alot, Im new to the forum so im still figuring things out on here.
I actually tried at 290 for about 4 minutes and it didnt work but I guess I needed to wait longer. Ive done it one a few different cars and it usually doesnt take that long but I guess minis are different

I didn't use an oven. I just used my heat gun, and heated up a section at a time. It is pretty quick and I don't have to ask permission from my wife to use the oven for car stuff! I put them back together the same way. Heat it up with the heat gun and it can just gooo back together. Good luck.

^^ So just to make sure I understand....Did you heat say the top section, pry away, heat next to it, pry away etc? Or did you slowly heat the entire headlight first and then start prying away?

This stuff must be sticky because Ive been turned off from the idea ever since I tried it this way...and failed. Maybe I didnt have enough patience. lol

Simply leave it in the over for a bit longer. It does work.

Yep, heated the top section back and forth and then pry it away a bit, then the side and pry at the corner and then work your way around. It took me maybe 5 minutes to get them apart. And yes the stuff is sticky especially when warm. Have fun!!

Yea ill just leave them in longer. I was a bit scared to because on the other cars ive done it on the sealent melts in less then 5 min. I may pick up a heat gun though its usually better and easier

Heat gun works great. If you don't have patience this mod isn't for you.

ok i dont know what the deal is but im getting these things heated really really heated to the point where they are too hot to even hold and the glue doesnt seem to be getting sticky, ive done this mod on 4 other cars and I dont know what im doing wrong. Im using a heat gun at around 500 degrees. What side should I be heating the top where the clear plastic is or underneath on the black side?

so ive been at this for 3 hours and there is something im over looking. Can someone help me out.

I have an 03 mini. Are there some kind of screws tabs or clips that hold the housing to the clear plastic? something other then the sealent? Because I put them to bake for 10 min at 230 degrees and i wasnt getting anyhting and ive done this before so I know for a fact there is something im overlooking or else they would have just pryed open.

2nd Gen come apart just as described above, but you seem to have a 1st gen car (03) and this is the 2nd Gen section so going over to the 1st Gen section would probably be a big help.

I just started at the top of the headlight. I tried to aim the heat into the small gap that seperates the clear lens from the back of the light. Make sure that all clips are removed (obviously) before heating it up. Also, I used a screwdriver to help pry it apart. Other than that, maybe you have some super headlights that don't want to be harassed.
