2003 MCS DIY OBC worked!!!

Well, it worked!!! This morning I wired in my switch to my harness behind the speedo using this DIY

http://www.mini2.com/pdf/onboard_computer.pdf

After I had it wired and ready to go, I drove over to Momentum Mini and asked if they would activate the OBC, at first no one new what I was talking about and the guy I spoke with on the phone yesterday was like "we will call you to see if it works, then you can come back" but I already drove the 1 hour drive so it was getting done. Finally the tech came out and I explained to him that I already have the Xenon headlights which requires the harness, therefore the hardware is there, it just needs to be programmed, I also asked him to shut off my daytime running lights and then he kind of understood what I was talking about with the OBD2. After 20 min, he came back out and said "it can be done but they want to charge you for an hour which is 130 bucks!" and then it happened, "but I will do it for 20" and I was like, done. Lol. So he did it and boom! My button worked! Only thing I am kind of upset about is that for some reason I still don't have digital speed? But oh well, I have everything else!

The earlier first gen cars never had 'current speed.'

Yeah, I figured it was something like that, Cause the 04' I drove for a little had the digital speed but this one doesn't, oh well! It's still a nice feature for 20 bucks instead of 200!

You should just need to get it activated from the Mini Dealer

So in other words just what the newer ones showed stock.

By the title I thought it was getting more of the OBC readouts available.

It is, I get average speed, how many miles I have left to a tank, average miles her gallon, and temp. As before I installed the button it was only temp. My model mcs can't get the digital speed because I don't have the sensor. I have the obc1 and the newer mini's have the obc2

So your MINI did not come with the stalk button?
And then you had the dealer flash the car to get the OBC readout to work?
Will this same thing work for later cars that already have the button?

Exactly! That's what I did, it should work as long as you have the correct hardware. Since you have the button then they should just be able to enable it.
