Here's the story. I grew up with a family obsessed with MGB's. My grandfather had three, each of my three uncles had one, and my mother owned two. Convertibles and a few GT's in there, but mostly convertibles.

This may sound kinda weird, but have you ever found yourself just sitting there staring at your MINI? Staring for a very long time and just thinking "what can I do next? What would look cool?"

Well I came up with an idea that has me even shocked....I didn't think I would give this a second thought in a hundred years. Chrome vinyl door protection. I only thought of it because I saw an MGB the other day and saw the classic chrome strip that goes down the side of the car to spice it up and also protect the door from other folks opening theirs and not paying attention.

I know I've seen this stuff somewhere in a role that has 3M double-sided tape on it. It comes with ends that curve at the end to make a kind of "V" look.

Would this add a classic British look and at the same time help protect my doors or will this just look like crap? Has anyone ever done this or have any pics?

The thought still horrifies me in the back of my mind but I just can't seem to let it go until I've either seen it or done it. If I do it....God help me---it better look good!

 

I have seen several in Northern Virginia. One word - crap. Even the ones that are installed laser-straight. And the ones that are slapped on free-hand? Double-crap.

 

Right on. I stand controlled...hopefully. I'd still love to see pics though. I had a feeling it would look like crap.

 

How about Carbon Fiber? How about Viper or Sport Stripes? How about Porsche style side stripes w/ Cooper or Cooper S? How about a Roof Graphic that you customized, the family crest/seal/coat of arms...etc...etc?

 

yeah, NO. would look really bad. Any stripe up in the 'door ding' area would look pretty fugly IMO...

 

Thank you inimini2007. I found a site a few hours ago, http://www.cooperflags.com/ , in which you can not only buy flags and other designs but have the option of making your own design. The family crest is a brilliant idea as my parents hail from England. Our crest would be http://www.4crests.com/woodward-coat-of-arms.html . Not sure how it would look on a Chili Red Cooper with a white top but maybe it wouldn't be too shabby. Thanks for the input.

 

IMO, you never want to have more than three colors working together on your MINI.

So, on a CR/White MINI, that crest would be okay since it's blue and white. But, you'd want to tie the blue in with some other blue bits-and-pieces... mirror caps, brake caliper paint, pinstripes on the bonnet stripes, etc.

Well, I've found some pretty outrageous custom roof graphics online as people really go all out on some of their Cooper's. I've found a few sites that will custom design a roof graphic for a lofty price and I'm thinking...why not? I've thought of the diver down flag but my wife thinks everyone will think I'm a master diver (which I'm not yet) and people will ask me all sorts of questions. But I came up with an idea ALL on my own! My wife thinks....well, she doesn't know what to think. So here it is:

I've long been a Bond fan and have practically all the movies memorized line by line. I've got most of the original books as well as a bunch of miscellaneous stuff (though my wife vehemently objects to me buying a PPK much to my chagrine).

What do you think? I've seen worse, that's for sure. It fits me personally and it definitely fits my 2007 Chili Red/White MCS. The colors are right on. Which way to angle it though? Maybe I could do some modifications in Photoshop......

Pretty cool ! And yeah, the colors will go great with your car as long as the shade of red is very close (CR and blood red ? hmmmmmmm)... otherwise, it might clash. I know you've looked at it on the computer but the colors on the computer can sometimes lie. Check it out by getting a small smaple of that color red printed before you get the graphic done. Adjust the color if you need to.

Plan to tie the bond theme in anywhere else on the MINI ? "007" license plate ? Maybe embedded on bonnet stripes ?

 

If you plan to go through with it, I would suggest rotating the pic to a portrait style for symmetry. I like the idea
