Replacing Canadian Model Speedometer

I am buying my Fathers Canadian model 2002 Cooper S and need to change the speedometer to USA model before importing. If I buy used speedo on ebay will there be any programming "issues" when I "reboot".Has anyone done this?

can you just print 1 off your computer and glue it to your current speedo?

Here in Canada (well Montreal, Quebec, but I believe it is nationwide) all that we need to do to is apply stickers that indicate 50kph (city speed limits) and 100kph (highway) - if you your speedo doesn't show both. Which yours should, since you should have both mph and kph indicated since you're in the 1st gen forum.

In any case, have you checked with your DMV? Your requirements may not be so demanding as you think.

Lots of places sell speedo faces..

but you will run into the issue that your odometer is in km not miles.... It will depend on how close the inspection is as to if you'll get by or not.

The speedo module (big one in the center) is not just a speedo, but a network gateway for lots of the system busses. I'm thinking you will need a dealer visit to get it all working together....

If you're interested I got a 2003 US MCS and I am canadian ;-)

I've been searching for a while to get a km/h odometer to replace my mph

I think there is some programming to be done at your mini dealership if you change the odometer.. Let me ask some friends who work at mini to see what has to be done and how much it cost. I'd be really interested to do a trade with you.

Where are you located exactly? I'm from Montreal, QC.. By any chance are you visiting montreal soon ? ;-)

Speedo

Your best and cheapest option would be to buy face plates from outmotoring.com or find a used US speedo and swap the face plates over, then have your dealer change the prorgamming from km to miles, takes about 10 minutes and they should charge about $50.

I moved to the US last year, and was stubborn and bought a new US speedo from my dealer in the US. It was expensive, and while I had the correct speed readout, the indicator lights are in different places, requiring you to also get a new tach. I did not do this and just lived with no turn signals, dual seatbelt, lights and no check engine light....

speedometer replacement problem

hi,

I'm Lee from Malaysia and i'm currently encounter the speedo meter problem, my digital mileage information board aren't working anymore. For your information that my car is 02 R53 and i've brought a used 03 speedometer.

Once i've replaced the speedometer i encounter that the rpm meter having problem with the DSC light, seatbelt light function all gone. Also the ''beep'' sound before i start my car is gone also.

I've asked the mechanic help me reset the computer but still cant get the DSC and seatbelt light working again. There claimed that the speedometer product number are diffrent and couldn't work fine with my car.

Does anyone encounter the same problem too?? the new speedometer is costing me USD 1,000 at my country and i think it's really expensive to me.

hope someone can help me to get the DSC, and seatbelt light working again..

Best Regard,
Wagyu

You cannot code a used speedometer so save your $$$.

You can plug in a used speedometer and it will work but your miles will be wrong.

I like the overlay's and having dealer or someone with SSS changing car from kmh to mph
