Interior/Exterior MINI offering gauge accessories
MINI offering gauge accessories
Mini is offering "JCW" guages for all Mini's this coming spring from the dealer. If the price is right I may have to bring my MCS in for this install.

they're cool, however the only one that'll really give you any info is the coolant temp. "relative torque" is pretty stupid. The latteral G's, ehh, okay I guess... I've got a program that I can use my wii remote to determine lateral g's as well as accel and all that other junk. I'd like to see a boost gauge.
plus i think the aftermarket gauges look better.

Glad that MINI is offering these, however, why don't they match the color/design of our existing gauges?
I think this is a gigantic mistake. If I wanted different looking gauges, I could easily go aftermarket. You would think that to get OEM looking extra gauges, that MINI would stay conservative, and try to match their existing design and orange color scheme in their cars already.
What were they thinking???

I agree with you completely. In my opinion these gauges look aftermarket. My car is in route on the water and my MA had showed me these. But I had seen the ones made by Stewart Warner and in my opinion, they match the original gauges so much better.
Just my opinion!

From the article it only looks like Gen 2 MINI's will be able to use these. I agree that aftermarket ones look better.

I am glad they are being offered. I agree that the after market ones w/ the white faces match our Mini's standard guages better. What's interesting is that the install seems to be just to hook up to our electrical, there is no tapping into hoses or other lines. I do wish that there was an aftermarket guage setup that was this easy to install (since it appears that all the information is in the computer of our car already). The install says that it should only take about 1 hour and looks pretty easy in my opinion.
^agreed, but mainly for those who track their car or drive hard for long periods of time.
for the average consumer, coolant temp is all you really need. Under average driving, the coolant temp gives a pretty good gauge of relative oil temp.
However, I think we can all agree mini only does things for the average consumer.

accurate speedometer!! -HA, ...you should see how generous the Germans were w/ my Porsche. I swear the needle is always at 90. Maybe I am driving too fast? But I swear they add about 10 MPH to every 10 your actually driving.
It is IMPOSSIBLE to make a fully accurate spedo.
why?
because every second you're driving down the road, you're wearing down your tires.
when you wear down your tires, you change the rotational speed of the wheel, thus making your car think you're traveling a different speed then you actually are.
the only way it could be fully accurate, is the car would have to continuously monitor the circumference of your wheel, along with the rate of rotation.
plus, sensors have a margin of error, which is why cops don't pull you over for under 5mph over, and if they do, you can easily get charges dropped.

well based on other cars ive been in with oil and water temp... its not even close when the car is warming up. Water temp will reach normal temps significantly faster than oil temp.
I try not to drive as hard for the first 15-20 minutes to ensure the oil is near optimum temp.
