02-04 reverse light on a 06???

I'm considering red or smoked vinyl on my 06's tail lights.

I'd still like a white reverse light, and I was considering wiring in the center light. Has anyone done this who can anyone offer me some suggestions?

Buy the reverse light from a dealer. It's like $16. You can run a power wire down from inside the compartment where the taillight wiring is through the boot to the outside of the car. Use a female slide connector and hook it to the positive side of the light. Back in the boot, tap that wire into the power wire for the brake lights, it's a blue wire with a yellow stripe. Back at the light, put a female slide connector on some wire for a ground and hook it up to the light. Then connect the other end of the wire to a metal part of the chassis. I actually tapped my ground into the ground wire on the connector for the fog light hanging down in the light area. You might have to remove the battery to run the power wire down through the boot. It took me all of 30 minutes to do it.

This kit gives you everything you need to put a reverse light in the bumper. It uses the prewiring that is already on the car: http://minspeed.net/MMBUL.htm

I recently bought the clear center backup light from Atlantic British Ltd. After lowering the spare tire I found the wiring harness with connector already under the car, but when I plugged it in nothing happens. Is there something I'm missing? I assumed that it would come on in reverse or when the breaks were on. Nada! Any help would be appreciated.

What year is your MINI? You're most likely using the fog light connector. If I recall right, the '05 models and up weren't pre-wired for the reverse light. At least my '05 wasn't. Doing the wiring yourself isn't hard at all. If you need any help, let me know.

My MINI was built in April of 2005. I was starting to suspect that it was fog light wiring. I have a backup video camera above the licence plate and I was trying to get more light back there. Do you know if that fog light wiring goes up into the rear brake/reverse light assembly area or would I have to cut the fog light wiring and re-route it? Thank's for the help.

You just have to add the lamp, and install a wire jumper in the wiring harness behind the side panel in your luggage compartment. This kit contains everything you need including complete instructions: http://minspeed.net/MMBUL.htm

Edit: MinSpeed is no longer in business. Look for the kit here: http://gominigo.com/BLK-MINI.html
