Rear grill inserts?

Are there such items available as stainless steel rear grill inserts for the 06 MCS?

Something the does not require removing the rear bumper?

Yes, you can get cheap ones off ePay, or there are some vendors that sell them. M7 Tuning has a set for $149. The rear bumper needs to be removed to gain the best access.

You have to remove the bumper either way, or you can take the exhaust and head shield off. The bumper is like 3 bolts and 2 screws, just take it off.

Don't have pictures but....

I did this mod for a local.....

You can bend the heat shield up enuf to get room to get your hand behind the bumper.

Then it is easy to pop the plastic inserts off the plastic tabs - push from the outside with one hand and use a bit of care to not BREAK the tabs.

The go to Home Despots or Lowes and buy one or two pieces of steel mesh gutter guard. It is a couple of bucks for a 3 foot long section. If you don't have any, grab a set of sheers or tin snips strong enuf to cut the stuff.

Using the plastic pieces as a template, trace the outline on the gutter guard, and cut out the pieces. You don't need to be real exact, a little bit bigger than the plastic won't show. For the tab holes just cut 'slots'

Then postion the new pieces behind the bumper and press the metal over the tabs thru the slots you cut. The SHARP edges of the gutter guard mesh will grab the plastic tabs TIGHT.

Then bend the heat shield back down..... p.s. don't start this project 'til the exhaust is cool

It works and looks GREAT, IMHO. Took about an hour.....

On my 02, when the foam disintigrated in the cowl vents, I used the same process to put a metal grate in the cowl vent pieces. Cost about a buck a vent when you get down to it (sorry this does not work well on the later cowl vent that does not have the foam)

It's not stainless; but the stuff on the 2 has been there a couple of years with no signs of rust.

They look just like the Cadillac V-series grilles. They seem to be high quality pieces, similar to the M7 grilles, but I think M7's front grilles are a little nicer because they don't have the trim around the outside and they seem more three-dimensional whereas the Race Mesh looks flat. That wouldn't matter with the rear grilles, though.

The images on their site are too big to post, but here's a link to their Mini rear grille:

I did the same mod as Capt BJ is talking about. Did the same on mine. Used Chrome spray paint and wire harness to the bumper

yeah i started to do that then got pissed cause it was hard as hell especially with the bumper on, so i very easily removed the bumper cover and viola super easy and instead of cutting i bent the shield up and out of the way!

Well Morphix, I suggest you take your time and take the rear bumper off, it's probably a lot easier! Lmao!
