Rally Armor Mud Flaps

Hello all,

As a former Subie owner, I just could not keep myself from installing a set of rally style mud flaps on my 05 MCS. These are `Rally Armor's for a WRX.

Do you get clearance issues with mudflaps that low? Since the car moves with its suspension, I would think the mud flaps hit the ground pretty often.

Can you stand back and take a shot so we can get an idea what the whole package looks like? Looks like an interesting idea. I like the Rally look. Whats the $$ for these?

Not meant to be offensive; from the pictures, they don't see to do any more than regular ones.

But they do look different if that's what you were after.

I will have better shots to come........These are the "basic" model for $45.00. They are flexible as oppsed to their other model which is very stiff and $100. Both come with very high quality mounting hardware. Rally Armor wrote me back and told me they have a lot of Mini customers. I can only hope they develop a kit for Minis.

No offense taken....there are no rears available for the S so this is a good alternative. Besides I like the rally look.

Sweet. I have to order a set for winter. I've been wanting rally mudflaps ever since the MINI accessory ones got destroyed last winter because of backing through deep snow.

I assume the install is rather straight forward?

You're right, they look good! The second set of pics really show em off.

Thanks for the Mini Pic. How was the install? I watched the video, but it looked very Subie specific. If the install isn't too bad I think I'll get a set. I like that look from the rear.

The install involves a lot of modifications. You can utilize a few of the pre-drilled holes but the rest is custom. You will also need to trim the plastic clips that come with the kit as well....Good luck!

I assumed I'd have to drill and punch holes, but I was worried I'd have to cut the mudflaps to make a nice fit and risk an uneven, lopsided look.

It will be easier than my original plan, which was to buy sheets of polyeurithane and to cut them into mudflaps and punch holes for mounting hardware.

I had these on my 92x and they work great. AS for them hitting the ground, they are durable. I had mine dragging and they held up for 25k + miles.

Do these reduce the spray on the back window? I think I may do this, especially if the rear window stays cleaner with these mud flaps!

It is my understanding that nothing can counter the fluid dynamics of a hatchback and keep the back clean.

I wish I had a set when I tried out a dirt quarter mile track, at speed (wah hoo!!!)

Some rally race cars use colored plastic (red, blue), including underbody "skid" plates.

I run a soft urethane units on my car... They hold up well to gravel spray... The HPDE flaps I had before ripped of or cracked whislt at Sno drift in the zero degree temps...I keep them close to the ground... The bottom of my car is covered with 1/4" HDPE sheet to protect against gravel spray...

I added a factory rear hatch spoiler of sorts on my Cherokee, specifically as an attempt to keep the rear hatch from getting excessively dirty. I was actually quite surprised to see that it actually did work! It probably diverts air flowing over the roof to pass over the rear window/hatch, which blows the dirt off rather than allowing it to collect.

It seems that the MCS spoiler makes the problem worse. I wonder if the spoilerless MINI One in Europe has the same issue with grime on the hatch?

I pre-fit them to the car and took a lot of measurements using reference points. Once you know where to drill on the flap for one side you just double up the flap so the holes are in the same place on each left and right flap. The tricky part is drilling the holes in the car so they are even on both sides.

I always heard that drilling polyurethane was a futile activity. For that reason, I bought a leather punch that would work at a garage sale pending this mod.
