Interior/Exterior OEM Armrest Install
OEM Armrest Install
Okay...I feel like a trouble member. The guy that causes everyone else to sigh when they read his threads.
Anyway, I'm planning to install my OEM Armrest on my '06 MSC, but I can't find any instructions. The OutMotoring link that I was planning to use when I bought it seems to be down...in fact, outmotoring.com seems to be down. I'm not sure if it's down for maintenance and will be up and running later tomorrow...or if there's another problem. Does anyone know of another place on the net where I can find instructions? Thank you.
Seth

Armrest Install
Not sure if OK has a dealership near by but they will print you up instructions. It is simple, I only got one page from the dealership cause I only had trouble with where the 3 screws that hold armrest go. They will try to get you to let them do it for $100-165, but insist YOU WANT TO DO IT.

I don't think it was the website. I think it has to do with my internet connection...Hughsnet...maybe something to do with proxies? Or DNS? Not sure...but it doesn't really matter. I had a friend e-mail me the pdf file, so I'm good to go. Thanks all.
Cheers!!

It was pretty much a piece of cake. I'll post details a little later...of trouble spots...if you want to call them that. I'm going to test drive it now. Right now I have to say I'm a little disappointed in how it feels to rest my arm on it. It's not as sturdy feeling as the "Elbow Landing Pad" that I just removed.
R35P3CT DA M1N1, you may want to consider the MiniFini...I have to admit I'm kind of wishing I had. The OEM doesn't fit together as well as I had hoped. Don't get me wrong, it looks good, but not as good as I had hoped. The main reason I went with it was that I thought it would match better than the others...
Who knows...anything will do I suppose. There might be someone on here that can give you a better comparison than me. I've only seen the "Landing Pad" (I think that what it's called) and the OEM in person. This one does look better than the "Landing Pad." But like I said, it doesn't feel as sturdy. I'll be back on here later.

Okay, it's not too bad. I can get used to it...it just has a little more give than the other.
R35P3CT DA M1N1, as far as the install goes. I have a set of plastic panel tools that I bought at a local parts store for about $20. They make things much easier in my opinion. I think the hardest part was taking the original center console off. Getting the handbrake loose is a little tricky. Redline has instructions for that here: Redline Goods Handbrake Instructions
The plastic tools are handy here, because you can pry the boot off bye wedgie different tools in until it pops out. Another thing is...when I was taking the actual handbrake handle off, I found it best to twist it as I lifted the tabs...they tend to stay up that way, so you can get both of them up at the same time. So, I kind of twisted and pulled at the same time.
One more thing is to make sure you don't crank the nuts down to hard...so just snug it up and leave it. (The nuts are only used in one place - on the "Handbrake Console Holder," so you can't miss it) Anyway, the reason is if you crank it down too much it doesn't leave enough room for the armrest to slide down into the "Handbrake Console Holder, and you can't get all the bolts meet up right.
I hope that all this makes sense...it's kind of hard to explain...but if you go with the oem, you'll understand.
And one more thing. The instructions say to disconnect the battery, so I did. Then I closed the boot. Once I finished it was time to connect the battery...only my boot was locked.
I had to take the boot cover thingy (not sure what it's actually called) apart. Once again the plastic tools came in handy. I then had to squeeze my arm down through that little slit to get the seat down, so I could connect the battery from the back seat. So learn from my mistake and try to avoid that one.

Did you know that the rear seat bottom lifts up and there is a pull tab in there to unlock the boot if the battery dies, or in this case is disconnected. Its too late now but you know for future reference.
Does the oem armrest get in the way of the rear cup holder?
ouch, don't tell him that...he'll hate himself...but yeah, that pull cord comes in handy whenever you disconnect the battery and shut the lid.
im not sure what oem armrest youre referring to, i have the one that has the pop up storage compartment, it does not affect the cupholder.
