Metallic Tint & Nav Reception

Hello All,

With only a few weeks to go before "Vlad" arrives, I'm starting to think window tint. I stopped in an installer's shop months back when I was daydreaming and he showed me three types of tint, one of which was metallic (and looked totally cool). The problem with it, he pointed out, is that it could interfere with Nav reception depending on where the antenna is located.

Anyone have any more information on this or any experience with MINI's and metallic tint?

Much love...

From what I have read here and around the net recently looking into having my baby tinted too is that some metallic tint will interfere with Nav and AM radio reception.
I want to get the ceramic tint but so far haven't found anyone in my area who does it.

I guess that begs the question, where is the Nav antenna located and can it be moved (I seem to recall some sweet looking, tiny exterior antenna)... I can live without AM.

Do you mean the antenna for the factory Nav? It's inside the base of the roof antenna, so tinting wouldn't affect it.

Awesome! How about the antenna for Sirius...? Is that somewhere that would be affected by metallic tint??

It can interfere with the TPMS so be careful in choosing your tint. I decided to go with non-metallic to avoid any problems.

I have read somewhere that it may also interfere with comfort access, though not sure if there is any truth to that.

I probably will if they will guarantee it will not interfere. Anyone else have 3M with comfort access, Nav (but not the Mini Nav, I have a Garmin) and Sirius satellite radio with no problems?

Just got my entire mini tinted, including the front windshield. 35% on all 5 windows and 45% on the windshield. Garmin reception is now non existent. I will be removing the front windshield tint this weekend as I use the GPS waaay too often.

When all 5 windows were tinted 35%, it didnt look too dark, however after the windshield was covered it was a different story (looked like dark/limo tint)
