Alta gauge issues

I have one of the first boost and temp gauges ordered from alta. I have had boost transducer failures on 3 boost transducers. The latest yesterday. Fortunately I had a spare transducer from an earlier replacement. Is anyone else having this problem? My gauges work perfectly otherwise. The transducer is mounted on the plastic firewall as per the install instructions. I wonder if there is too much heat back there and that is leading to the failures or is it just the "made in china" component??

Do you mean the brass(?)-looking fitting? No, and nowhere is my instructions did it indicate that was necessary. What is it's function and how did you know to install it?

no, its not "brass looking". the filter is a small clear plastic disk (about the size of a Nickle) that has a filter media inside and a nipple on either side. I've attached a rough MS Paint rendition

you install it by cutting the vacuum hose and fitting the hose to each side of the filter. It's a "pass-through" situation.

its funtion, I assume, is to filter out blow-by gases and oil judging by the color mine has taken on in the past weeks.

I don't have such a item in my box of stuff that came from Alta. I do have a metal fitting (I remembered incorrectly, it is stainless steel appearing and has a nipple of each end). When did you get your gauges? And did your instructions tell you to install a filter?

i also had a customers car have the same problem just 5 to 10 miles after install. the gauge came with a filter fitting (like above but metal), but after a call to Alta they said not to use it and was not sure why it is in the kit. they got me a new part out for the customer and it has worked since. i think it's a made in china problem.

I had my first boost sender fail as well. I just received and installed the replacement from ProSport and all is well. Hopefully the problem doesn't repeat itself.

I recieved my gauges in mid April. The intructions didn't say to, but it was in the picture and made sense to do so. I would contact Alta. I bet they would send one right out to you.

For those of you with the Prosport boost gauge from Alta: I spoke with the tech guy at Prosport today and his recommendation was the the filter should be absolutely used as transducer failure is directly linked to the not having the filter in place. Lots of stuff passes through the vacuum line to the transducer and causes the failure. Interestingly, in all my prior conversations with both Alta and Prosport tech support, no one mentioned a filter. It was Xray dit Mini who pointed it out! Hmmm.

Hey guys, not to bring this back from the dead, but if anyone else has an issue PLEASE let us know. Also, the filter IS important, and should be installed in all cases. If you haven't yet installed it, please do so.

ProSport has been VERY good about helping clients with these issues and has gotten them replacement parts immediately.

As always, PLEASE let me know if I can ever help further.

Just did the install this weekend and no mention in the instructions in the box nor on the ALTA website.

ADAM some comments
  • please update the text in the instructions as the filter is not in there and also there is a hard plastic cap over the rubber passthrough to the pass compartment
  • put some more pics in the instructions
  • PLEASE print the instructions on a better printer as the pics REALLY SUCK. I printed mine from the online PDF on a color laser printer and the difference was HUGE !!!
Will also have to send you guys an email tomorrow as the little silver button you press on the front of the guage to get max readout rattles like an SOB

Points well taken and sorry for any issues you have had. The online instructions are a GREAT place to go if the printer versions are less than ideal. Plus you can zoom etc. on the pictures.

The hard cap on the pass through is easily removed by simply snapping it off, running the wire and placing it back. I'm sorry if the instructions left that detail out as we may have assumed the obvious. Good point though.

Filter yes will be added.

The silver button. Some of the gauges do this and others don't. Couple solutions. Either twist the bezel of the gauge slightly to put tension on the side of the silver button and this will make it stop. OR place a VERY small blob of clear silicone at the base of the button and the noise will stop 100%.

We are trying to source an o-ring to substitute for the above procedures, but have failed to find one that small. ProSport is also working directly on other solutions.

Thank you again for the purchase and the comments. Hope to help you again soon!
