It does look good -- and it's a great, cheap solution . . . if you have the patience for it.

I would go this route myself if I ever get around to getting my aero bumper -- except if may be too plain on the JB (it would just look like a solid black bumper) -- so I'll probably do something like ImagoX's inserts . . . but rkw's solution looks great on other colors.

I do think he should've cut out the plastic (or better yet just paint it flat black so he wouldn't have to deal with the silver heat shield showing through).
OH! I didn't know he'd posted a picture - thanks! I've been on and off the boards for the past few weeks and missed that he posted the picture. And yeah, painting the area black would have looked good - I though he was cutting out the area behind the grille for air flow, actually...

Thanks again!

You could paint it Satin Black for a matte finish, or any other color to contrast. Red for an eye popping look or silver for a metal finish, etc.. It's what I'd do with my JB.

With the recent heat wave and my AC on full blast, it was especially severe after about 6,000 miles of driving, so I replaced them, and all is well again. The year before I realized this temporary fix, I suffered for about 6 months of all sorts of issues that I thought were related to the supercharger and bypass valve--at WOT, the supercharger would build up, then chop off, then build up, then chop off, instead of one continuous buildup with the pedal to the metal. Originally thinking it was detonation, I tried 104 Octane fuel which helped quite a bit, but didn't solve it completely. Eventually I found that changing the plugs did-using NGK Iridium 7's or 8's (tried both).
Interesting! I think I might have a similar problem. Car has been running lean, and I occasionally get some interesting "pops" or "thuds" that occur under load and have triggered an SES light a couple of times. Haven't noticed anything odd with the supercharger though. Danny and I have been trying a few things here and there, but we haven't spent too much time on it yet. It will be in to him again in the next couple of weeks. Thanks!

Chris

P.S. Sorry to get off topic again!

Thanks to this link, it looks like I'll be getting the aero kit bumper from Classic now, lol. Gee thanks guys! Just kidding.

As for the lean issue--seems I'm suffering from something worse today. For the past several months I ran the colder NGK Iridium plugs, #8. But I decided to use up the plugs (#7s) I had bought before I started having Danny work on my car--he recommends the 8's. Today, I was having major stuttering issues under WOT. I'm going to try putting back the old #8 plugs to see if that improves anything. No codes were thrown however. My problem sounds like yours--it almost sounds like the same kind of pops from my exhaust I get when letting off the gas ..but it happens under WOT instead.

Thanks to those who responded. I took the plunge and drilled the 900 holes. It is at the body shop waiting for the finishing touches. I will post pics next week (fingers crossed). I also had the arches painted body color as well.

I also have Minspeed's CF inserts, but did a little custom work to them. Just finished it today...

Closer shot:

I felt bad drilling into the beautiful inserts, but was needed both to cut the exhaust hole (Cooper non S) and to firmly attach them to the bumper.

The grill work is actually wrapped around the inserts, so it looks better than a cut-out, IMO.

Take care,
Leo.

PS: I'll have better pics tomorrow, hopefully - if I wash the car - given the weather cooperates... lol.

I wish I had installed photos for you, but I don't - he says they fit and look great, but he's never sent me photos. I have enough material to make another set, so drop me a PM if ypu're really interested and are willing to make me a template from your cut-outs (when you MOD the areo bumper).
How much for the rears?

I'll definitely do this.

In fact, I've already bought the mesh. So soon I'll fit it.
