Anybody with some good tips for getting a clean finish. I plan on doing this when I get home from work. Thanks.

X-Acto Knife is your friend. Yes, a steady hand, and much patience is needed.

No matter what you do, the tape will eventually pull up at the ends and you'll have chrome showing and a mess taking the tape off. Good luck if you go ahead with it.

Mine has been on for over 6 months now and I have had no peeling or chrome showing...and the tape from outmotoring is kinda like electrical tape so it wont leave so crazy stick residue

Well, this isn't uplifting at all.

So you used the kit from outmotoring also? That makes me feel better as that is what I have.

Me, too - still trying to work up the nerve to get started. I tried a little bit of the tape - that clear covering on the tape is really difficult to get started removing...

I'm just worried about having a clean finish at the ends. I have really shaky hands unfortunately.

Hey both of you don't have to worry...just give it a shot worse comes to worse you have to take it off and get another kit (only $12)

Yes the clear is hard to get off, but put the tape on first and cut 1 end, and take the other and use the blade to split the clear and tape...remove clear then go back to that end and cut it to fit

Could not have said it better myself. Just be patient and don't be afraid, you won't hurt anything...

And the ends won't "peel off eventually" if you install the tape properly. I worked in the automotive industry for 16+ years, doing customizations and LOTS of vinyl work and detailing. The stuff will eventually become weathered, but it won't peel if the surface is properly prepped before application. When the elements eventually do get to the material (usually about 5-7 years), you can remove it and replace at will with very little hassle if you know what you are doing.

Just got some pics to post up. I painted the headlight rings, side repeaters, and taillight rings, and Lyle was able to do the beltline, gas cap, and door handles. I recommend Lyle to anyone. Great person to deal with and does great work.

Yea, definitely give it a shot. If you're nervous, like I was, start with the very small section first (between the hood and the door area).
If you mess that section up, it's pretty small so you can just redo and still have more tape for the rest of the car.
I mean... this mod requires attention to detail and is a bit time consuming, but it wasn't hard at all. Wasn't hard at all that even the wife helped me on this install.
She laid the tape and I cut the edges and peeled the clear off with the exact-o knife.
Just make sure it's REAL sharp or your gonna have a big headache.

So is that just a vinyl overlay? You didn't have to remove the door handles?
I heard actually changing out the door handles for the R56 is difficult so I was looking for something like a vinyl wrap.

Yeah it is supposed to be a real pain...the glass has to be removed as well

You could always paint them on the car

Just so you guys know, the windows do not need to be removed to replace the door handles on the R56. When I had Lyle do them this past weekend, he did not have to remove the glass. There were some other annoying parts, but no glass removal.

Couldn't you just put a bit of tape over the little button and still paint it???

Don't worry everything will be fine. Just cover the car well enough. As you can see in my pic, I put some painters paper down, then many overlapping layers of plastic bags hahaha. Oh, and not to mention the many layers of masking lap around the door handle to get the line perfect and to cover the little scoop. Make sure you cover the clicker on the back side too
