Interior/Exterior light in the scoop! hehe
Not at all - it doesn't get that hot there because of the air flow through the scoop - it seems to get hottest when the car is STOPPED actually - stick your hand in there, and you'll find that even without air cooling the radiator it's not nearly hot enough to damage the LEDs, let alone affect the silicone coating. I've had another strip mounted to the underside of my M7 strut bar for months and despite being right above the engine those are fine, too...

I get the Knightrider thing all the time.
I used one of these, it creates these cool little dots that bounce off the paint:http://www.oznium.com/waterproof-led-ribbon
Here's mine. Recently upgraded my old one to this. More colors/selection whereas old one was just blue.

Edit: Oops..not in scoop. (non-s) Old scanner will be placed in friends scoop though.

I wired it up using a lighted switch in the opening on my parcel tray. Its been a while, but from what I remember, the switch had two power wires (one for constant power to the switch's LED and one going to the scoop's LED) and one ground wire. Beyond that it was a simple splice-the-wires job.
The hardest part of the entire thing was mounting it to the scoop in such a way that you could still get air flow.
