Interior/Exterior light in the scoop! hehe
light in the scoop! hehe
whats up! i figured I'd start a sister thread for the light in the boot mod. This turned out really cool.. I hope it lights up the fog when i use the IC sprayer.
anyway just thought i'd share.
I'm not the first person to do this.. but its a fun mod!

heh,
I've been tempted to do the same thing, as I envisioned the Battlestar Galactica Cylon eye motion... but I kept wondering if people would think Knight Rider. There ya go.
Malcon- great mod, and you'll have to post a night pic or two when you get a chance. Dark Silver owners unite!

Haha I think it's because Ford dropped a LOT of money to make it look really great. It's always followed by Ford commercials
Is it legal? Looks pretty sweet. How did you do it?

I dont know really if its legal... with my headlights on you cant see it from the front though. they over power it. but if the lights are off at night it looks pretty cool...
I used the 9 inch led strip and just attached it under the scoop. I drilled two small wholes in the plastic under the scoop. and zip tied the led strip to it. then ran the wires under the insulation next to the fuse box.
pretty simple.

Clored lighting is NOT legal while the car is in motion. You can have white/amber up front and white (plate only) and red in the rear but that's IT. Running colored lighting while in motion CAN net you a ticket, so be careful.
That said...
I did this MOD on Nano along with a full grille lighting setup (in blue) and it DID look cool. I only used it while stopped though, or at VERY specific events (parade-style night drives, etc.).
Nice work!

a couple cars back I had a Subaru with a blue neon light bar in the hood scoop, and I got pulled over several times for it. It does look cool, but, at least in New York, any colored lighting forward of the dash is supposed to be for emergency vehicles only.
i think only but a few states (florida i think) where this is legal but for the most part if you have a red/blue lights on you can get a ticket for impersonating a emergency service vehicle (aka cop,fire,emt)... to be safe only run it while parked or at events like imagox stated (trust me the fines can get stiff depening on the state/area)
Looks nice but I definitely would run it outside of the show circuit.
I'm not sure of the OP did it exactly this way, but here's what Nano looked like when I had the blue strip in - I mean to do this same thing on Dawn just as soon as it warms up again (damn Ohio dreary spring weather):

Note that I ALSO installed lights behind the front bumper plate which lit up the entire front grille, upper and lower - here's what it all looked like with everything switched on:

It'snot for everyone - don't worry if you hate it - I've somehow learned to accept the fact that not everyone loves lighting on MINIs and can make fun of myself:

This is a picture of my mini in 2006.
And we are both in the DS Club also.
These leds will oscillate in and out, blink or fan back and forth.

I also have leds in the NOS purge
