Can't do the most basic Mod

(alternate thread title: I can't keep my tip up)

Alright, so I'm having trouble with what has to be the easiest "mod" -- except for stickers.
I got the OEM sport tips to replace the beer cans but, when I tighten the set screws, the outlet holes don't line up with the exhaust holes. (I don't know how to explain and may need to post a pic tonight). What I mean is that: when tightened in place, the outlet-end of the tips sits about 1/2" too low.

Has anyone experienced this? is there an easy fix?

Try not tightening the set screws all the way. Just screw them lightly until they are set in place and then move onto the outlet holes. Tighten those and then go back to the set screws

The tips are side specific......sounds like you need to swap sides.

One club VP recently did that upgrade. The tips are side-specific and the holes in the tips kind of 'snap' into the ends of the exhaust outlets.

I didn't know that!!
Great, that's probably all it is. I feel like a fool, but I'm glad it's something that simple -- I was dreading having to do some modification of the exhaust this weekend to get a good fit.

Yeah, you're gonna need to put it on a lift and drop the tranny...

Also, when sliding the tips on, keep in mind that for proper fitment the steeol pipes they cover are supposed to sit all the way inside the tips, literaly with the ends of the tailpipes all the way against the innermost edge of the tip. It's easy to get them 3/4 seated and not have the tailpipe all the way in - this is bad because the tips can fall off.

When I put mine on, I had to wiggle them around and back and forth until I felt them slip the last inch or so all the way into the tip. If you don't seat them all the way inside the tip, then they'll start getting cockeyed when you tighten the allen set screw. they could also slip down and partially obscure the tail pipe opening, which is quite bad.

If they're all the way inside, however, tightening the set screw even very firmly will not cause the tips to slant, as the tail pipe is trapped firmly against the inside of the tip - this is how you're sure they're seated properly. Note that it's best to half-tighten the screws so that you can get back a ways and visually check them for straightness, then give them the final crank-down once you're sure they're not tilted or rotated - with the screw tight they should be all-but-immovable and will not fall off later on.

thanks, ImagoX.
I was trying all that with no success. My problem, I think, is that I didn't realize that they were side-specific. (I was always the little kid trying to squeeze the square peg into the round hole . . . one of these days, I'll get it in)

Awesome! Glad you got it worked out! I did the exact same thing the first time... AND I didn't put them all the way on. So you're ahead of ME anyway if that helps you feel better.
