Interior/Exterior CF rear hatch
CF rear hatch
I just received the CF rear hatch and in the process of removing all parts from the inside of the OEM hatch (Very easy and straight forward) My question is...
How is the rear window held on to the hatch?
1.By glue?
2.Can I get this glue from my local Autozone or should I go to the BMW Dealer.
3. It looks very straight forward, is this a do-it-yourself job or should it be done by a glass installer

Most windscreen companies use Tigerseal. There is also a black sealant in strip form, with a cord inside that would hold Rosie O'Donnell to your ceiling. Both should be available in your local Motor Factors.
hahah nice
Thanks for the heads up..It seems to be a pretty easy re-install, the only thing that has to be done on the CF hatch is drill all holes where the screws from the inside panel attach. You'll also have to drill the holes for the clips where the outside trim attaches. At first glance it seems fairly daunting but once I started to look it really is only "measure twice drill once"
I'll post pictures this weekend of both for those of you that think of doing the same to your rear hatch.
The Bonnet seems to be only a little more complex, although I haven't taken a close look since they were delivered. The CF Fenders will be here next week...I'll make a separate thread as soon as I have all pieces in hand and give a photo how to if I remember.

Can't wait to see all this carbon.
One pointer I was given; if you do install the glass yourself, do it with the hatch on the car, closed, and everything lined up. Otherwise if it is sitting flat it could be tweeked a little and the glass will make it want to hold that shape.

Thanks for the tip... My son wants to put red checks up the hood and down the back on the CF. The problem is we have a white top so he wants to get a roof decal of all black with Red checks to match. Next up CF mirror caps to complete the look.

Once I take the OEM off this weekend I'll do a real world test hop on the scale with and without and get the difference. I just took the CF hatch and did my Hi-Tech method. It ended up being around 8-10 lbs.
i really would like to be able to afford to get my hood and hatch repaced with the CF. I think it looks awesome..
and yes a roof cap would be awesome!.. i would have to do alot of work to mine because i have the sunroof... and i know that kind of defeats the purpose.. but it would like awesome...maybe just a cover you know? like the mirror cover haha.
3M carbon fiber roof covers!

Actually there is a source in Arizona that is willing to make a CF roof cap that will just glue right onto your existing top. We need a total I believe 4-5 for him to make it worth his while to fabricate the mold for them... From what I remember the price would be around $450-550 dollars for it.
you can do the swap on yer own. I have done my share of cf hatch conversions. But if you havent done glass work I recommend having a glass guy do it :D
I cant wait to get mine done.
