>>You *must* post photos of your new chrome downtubes! My jet black MINI is chromed out on the exterior (chrome bumpers, chrome mirror caps, chrome handles, etc. etc.) and I'd love to add some chrome touches to the interior... How do they look? Also, was the price from "chromemyplastic" comparable to the whopping $500 price from Minimania?

Here is a picture of the Minimania version for comparisone $499 but maybe less hassle.

Very bright!!!!

YIKES

They looked better in my head.

I would personally avoid doing that!

I'd rather paint them to match, CF them, or black.

Hey how about a clear acrylic tube with Lighting effects!

Chrome downtubes are a bit flashy- that is why I posted the picture. If you really like chrome then it is OK.
But if too much chrome is nearby then it can over power the interior balance. Too much of a good thing.
It might work with a few accent parts with a very dark anthracite or carbon fiber dash.

I now have a picture of my chrome down tubes. I am having trouble getting it to post. Sorry for the long delay.

Thanks for posting the chrome with the red interior. Mine looks slightly different. I have black interior with anthracite dash and no chrome toggle switch covers with the stock HK radio.

My car just one first place as the best modified car at the ATLANTAMINIS first birthday celebration. When you are in the car with the darker interior it soes not come off as to much to me, but everyone has their own opion.

Thanks everyone for your support and I'll post a pic if I figure out how to get it to work.

Incensed by your story when you first posted it, I went to the "chromemyplastic.com" website and sent an e-mail with the subject "hey losers!" and asked simply "do you guys still exist?". About FIVE WEEKS later, I got a response - something along the lines of "yes. how may we help you?". Yeah right. I don't blame you for not recommending these dillholes.

That's right, dillholes. Butthead's greatest contribution to the English language.

You're trying to post it from your C drive. You need to post the picture online somewhere first (MCO gallery, for example), and then put it's web address in between the "img" tags.

I saw MotorOn's MINI at the AtlantaMINIs event and I have to say the interior chrome work looked fantastic. Against the dark anthracite and black interior it looked very classy, and not overdone at all. Nice job, MotorOn!

I really like the MINImania's chrome downtubes but I totally dislike the price.

Option worth considering given the generally poor paint quality of the downtubes on cars with the White Silver trim.

There's what you tried to post (if you right-click on the X, you can go to properties and see that there's an extra "http://" in there). That looks like a thumbnail, though. Is there a larger version of the pic that you can grab the properties from?

Well if it does not work this time, then you can see it in the Gallary page 378. The person who took the picture labled it "cool chrome".

I do not have a larger picture.

Thanks for all your help Chris.

I paid less for my pieces than they are on MINI Mania. I went thur a company that chromes the actual plastic rather than have chrome pieces made to fit over the OEM like MINI mania's pieces are.

Obviously, I would not go thru the same company again, but there are others out there. See my first post on this thread for the company's website as they do have a good description of the process you want done. As for other companies I don't have their names, but I origionally found several companies by doing a Google search using chrome and plastic as my search words. You want a place that actually coats the plastic so that they can then chrome it. It is a multi stepped process. Good luch on your search. I think I paid under $130 for each chrome tube.

Do you take off the downtubes by yourseld or by a dealer mechanic?

I am thinking of repainting my downtube, wonder if there is anything I need to be
aware of before attempting

You can do it yourself. You'll need a torx screwdriver. You'll need to loosen the dash above the downtubes. There are a couple of screws under the bottom lip of the dash you'll need to remove. Then, the bottom of the dash can be popped out (it uses clips). Once the bottom of dash is loosened, it will give you enough room to angle out the downtubes.

To replace the dash, simply tap the bottom of the dash with the heal of your hand. It will snap right back into place. Replace the screws. Just stay away from the dash area near the airbag. If you pop that dash piece, you'll have to replace your entire passenger airbag.

Good luck,
JS

Ditto on what JS said. They are easy enough to get out with some wiggling.

Good luck. It should take you all of 10 min. max.
