Is there more than one rear spoiler avaliable on the S? We have a cooper with the nice small spoiler, and I have seen the spopiler that comes in the S sport package, but I have also seen the other spoiler in the parts catalog that seems to be a size between the 2. It says it is for the cooper only, so I am wondering if it is the one we have.... Also I don't like the hole between the S's spoiler and the roof so I am looking for one without that, but bigger than the sport packaged cooper's. Does it exist from MINI, or do you know of a good place to get one elsewhere....

Sorry for all the dumb questions, but I have ben working on building my dream cooper S online and I couldn't find a good definition of the spoiler options....

Also does the S come with a spoiler to start and then the sport package adds the bigger one possibly???

Thanks,
Ben

The spoiler that comes with the aero package has a different camber that the standard for the S, but is the same size. It mounts the same, meaning it has the hole between the body and the spoiler.

I’ve not seen any that are flush with the body.

Yes the S comes with the spoiler.

Sounds like you want the Aero spoiler. It looks like the same profile as the S one without the hole in the middle and is a MINI OEM accessory. The S spoiler is standard as mentioned above.

Here is a review of all the MINI spoilers. The Aerokit spoiler is totally different than either the Cooper or Cooper S spoiler (see below)

The Cooper with no spoiler

The Cooper Spoiler

The Cooper S Spoiler

The MINI Aero Kit Spoiler

The aerokit spoiler does not have a gap under it like the Cooper S spoiler, and IMO it looks a little more integrated with the roofline of the MINI.

this is the one I want.... how do you order that on the car? Is it out of the parts catalog like the aero body bits, so get it at the dealer???? Thanks for the help... that is exactally what I am looking for!

Help is always but a mouseclick away on MCO....

You can purchase the Aero Kit Spoiler pre painted from your MINI dealer for $270 (or there abouts). It is also listed for $198 primed. I think your best bet is to just buy the prepainted one. That's what I did.

Then I paid an autobody shop $60 to do the install. The Cooper S spoiler is held on with 3M double back tape and TWO threaded stud, which can be accessed with the hatch open through the two outermost black plastic caps. They removed my S spoiler and then glued the new Aero kit spoiler down.

I wound up selling my stock Cooper S spoiler for $100 + shipping to help offset the cost of the aero spoiler.

Nice shots of the pictures~~ Thanks. My mini does not have any spoiler on at the moment and I am always looking for info of different spoiler types. This really helps!

Are the installation holes the same for all 3 spoilers? i.e. can I put a MCS or an aero spoiler in place of the MC spoiler?

Thanks!

I would say yes. When the took my "short" cooper fin off and put the aero one on, you could see the 3M tape around the edges and two screw holes at the ends. I know the cooper s fin has tape and screws as well. Therefore I would guess that the aero one is in the same format. I'm not sure, so maybe get confirmation.

do you find just as much dust/dirt accumulated on the rear window without the S hole? After I washed my car last night, I was amazed this morning to see how dirty the back of the car is after only a quick trip around town.

I've heard that the aero fin doesn't use screws, just tape/glue. Did hear of one being knocked off by an auto car wash, but if you refrain from such I doubt it would be an issue.

My back does get dirty on short jaunts even with the aero fin. The back gets no dirtier than with the small cooper fin it replaced though. My roof (and fin) are black, so maybe I'm just not noticing the dirt.

Also, I'm pretty sure that the aero fin must be held on w/ tape and screws since it is so large and long off the car. I think if it was just held on by tape, it would start sagging off in the center (esp. w/ the opening motion of the boot hatch). It feels pretty sturdy on the car, so I'd be surprised if it's just tape.

Hmmm. Have no direct experience with the Aero spoiler; which is why I tossed in "I've heard...". Got me curious as to where I saw that in the first place. Did some hunting, and found a post by Damo over on MINI2 forums. Will try to cross link, to the thread I saw: Link to MINI2 forum Here.

He seems to have worked with all varieties, and he was curious why the smaller spoilers seem to fasten in a more robust fashion than the larger Aero spoiler. Seems when he switched (from the Cooper Chili spoiler), he had to go with the Aero rather than the S (which he preferred), because he had an existing bolt that he was forced to cover up.

The center bolt issue seems to have changed (been removed) for recent model years; but I've not yet found any indication that the Aero spoiler now uses bolt attachments.

Dave (TheScientist):

do you get as much dirt and dust on the back hatch with the aero spoiler as with the 'holey' S spoiler?

TIA!

Does the aero spoiler also have a cutout for the center high-mount brake lamp, similar to that of the MC spoiler?

Rear Hatch Debris: figure on no significant change in the amount of debris. Mine still gets filthy rather quickly, same as before. It's not the spoiler, it's the MINI's brick like aerodynamics that results in a lot of vorticies at the back of the car.

Third High Mounted Brake Light: yes there is a little indention in the aerokit spoiler for the third brake light.

Downward scoop kills a lot of the dirty air allowing the cr*p to flow away from the rear screen.
No noticeable handling problems.

I need to work on making the supports a little more aerodynamic
