Black beer cans

I was walking around my car the other day doing a mental tally on which chrome hadn't been removed yet. The wife put me on a budget after I bought the CF door handles from Aesthetic so I'm on the prowl for DIY solutions. I'm looking down at the exhaust tips & thinking that they would probably look pretty cool flat black.

I saw a can of flat black high temp grill paint for a couple of bucks the other day. I know there are flat black header paints out there to.

So, who's done it already & what are your experiences?

I bombed my calipers using cardboard as a template and ceramic based high temp flat black engine paint. It's held up really well. I'd say use that. There's no way a tip is gonna get as hot as a caliper.

Yeah, that's why I thought the grill paint might work to. My grill gets a lot hotter than my tips do. Plus it is FLAT black.

I never thought about engine paint thought. I was under the impression they were all gloss. Where did you pick your paint up?

BTW: I noticed you said "bombed", do you write?

I've seen someone post theirs -- it was on a PW. I'll post pic if I can find. You may want to search the marketplace (I believe he had them FS on there)

I used BBQ paint inside my Cooper S tips, and it still looks great nearly two years later - no flaking, cracking or anything else:

Thanks! You've got me convinced.

I'm doing this one as soon as I get a can of paint. I'll post pics.

Nope. I just have my own way of using words and describing things.

I'm gonna try to grab some paint on the way home tonight. It's supposed to be a mix of snow & rain for the next couple of days.

This weather is really putting a damper on my fun. I wish spring would get here already!

+1
I'm in PA and I'm getting tired of this crap. I got lucky so far today but it looks like we might end up with some more snow/rain/mix BS on Friday.

don't use the grill paint..
they look very cheap..

also, i used 500 f resisting paint (auto enamel based) and it still flaked later on my alta exhaust

so i covered it up with 1000 f resisting paint, which is almost like a permanent.. looks semi flat, sexy

What surface prep did you do for the 500 f paint?
