Nope! I can't make it down there this year. Next year for sure though. I've already told my wife it's a "Must" trip next year (and I'll have more mods to show off ). I have her talked into MUTA though, so that should be a blast.

 

Ok. I also have an Astro Black S, and I am rather certain now that I will slowly begin dechroming.
My question is...what about body colored (Astro Black) Headlight Rings, door handles, beltline, etc... as opposed to just black? What does everyone think? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I am sure you might find some one who has done it......but(my $.02) the chrome is there to break up he body color and create movement. usually when you de-chrome you go with a gloss black , flat black, or another color all together so you can keep that same movement but its not so shinny. A point to reference is the joey mod done in the body color.I have seen that done a few times and it usually turns out ok + where are you going to find some black/blue vinyl that matches astro black perfectly (no seriously where i really would like to know as well) if you don't match it exactly it might turn out something like when you paint your white wall another shade of white, It looks ok from a distance but YOU know something is a bit off. Just try it if you don't like it seriously what are you out the cost of the vinyl?........just my $.02

 

i actually am thinking of shades of blue so you know i just can't find another color vinyl in Houston other than black. (any one know where i could buy some?)

 

Well I also have an AB MINI and was looking into getting some AB vinyl. I was going to start with some AB stripers on my white roof, because I already have some white ones on my bonnet. Ive been looking at a lot of places to see where this could be done and I think MightyStripes might be able to do this. They say they do special colors but I havent asked them bout it yet. As for the Headlight Rings, door handles, beltline, and especially the joey mod if anyone can figure that out I would love to hear it. I'll try to contact MightyStripes and get back to you guys

 

Change in plans for me!! I am going to be in AMVIV!! WOOO HOOO! I also, hope to have the "Joey Mod" done by then.....but I have some Astro Black paint in a can coming. So that's what it'll be!

 

From talking to Lyle at Vinyl Styles the astro black is very hard to try and match. Just go with the satin black..it looks amazing!

 

Just got an email back from the people of MightyStripes.com and unfortunately they cant do the astro black vinyl for the roof. They say its too hard to match that color...


"Vinyl unfortunetly dosnt come in car colors it black Matte Black and thats about it in black other than Metallic black, or sparkle black metallic those are about your options for black viny

I wasn't planning on vinyl wrap, I was planning on getting them painted at a shop. That way, the color should match perfectly. I'm just trying to visualize it...

 

Anyone have their chrome accents painted? ie-headlamp rings, door handles, etc...

I just went out a bought a 15ft roll of matte black vinyl from the local sign store. If any one in the Houston area wants to have a vinyl wrap party let me know. Its all about trial and error. I will post later how everything re-turns out.

Those are just holes drilled in the bumper with flat black where the sticker used to be... A lot of drag cars have them for a diffuser.....
And they do look rad.

melissa's is actually joey'd but she has a tint over the lens. see my earlier post in this thread of wikedgolf's ride.

 

 

Lyle did the headlights, the rear lights as well as the gas cap. I taped out the side S marker and blacked out the beltline.
