Any comments on the CG-Lock by Mather?

While I've tried searching I'm coming up pretty empty. If there is a thread already going about it, would some kind soul please direct me to it? If not, and anyone has experience with this "performance application", I'd like to get your impressions, thoughts, kudos, or complaints. Thanks.

I've had mine since last March, Bought it at AMVIV and really love it. It does just what they say it does, holds you tight in the seat. It would be very diffecult for me to give it up !

I've used mine on the Ring as well as on the AutoX track and, for the $$$, it works great (IMHO of course ) I wouldn't consider it a "safety" device, but more of a convenience device If I were worried about the safety aspect, I'd spend the extra dough and get a Schroth

I've used mine for Lapping Days, Auto-Xing, and securing a Car Seat. It's worth the $$$ (my .02 cents)

I've used mine daily for a couple of years now and now really can't imagine driving without it. I use a harness on the track as the CG does nothing for your torso, but definitely helps keep your hips planted deep in the seat. I'd say totally worth the $35.

A must have for spirited driving, short of a harness! You are much more relaxed and you can feel the car rotate so much better in the turns. No hype it does what they say...

They are fantastic value... but once I moved up to the Schroth harnesses, I got rid of my CG Locks - no need for them any more!

One thing to keep in mind with the CG Locks, if you leave them on your belt all the time, they are prone to scratching up the B-pillar when the seatbelt is retracted (i.e. not in use).

I like mine... Helps on the Dragon and at AutoX. In my opinion though, don't leave it on the car when not actively using it though - the extra weight keeps the belt from properly retracting and the thing gets caught in the closing door. NOT good. Luckily it only takes 5 minutes to take on and off.

Mine has been installed for more than two years of daily use, and the seatbelt still retracts fine.

Aside from the benefits of better driving with it, it also helps my bad lower back, by keeping me from slumping in the seat.

Had mine for a year or so...great product for street use.
Next best thing to a harness which you can't use legally on the street anyway.

Not true, there are street-legal harnesses, including my Schroth R4.

Not here in Oz. Your schroth r4 is also illegal here in Australia (i have one also). Infact the cglock may well be illegal here too.
As for in the US you are no doubt correct.

Happy with the performance of the G2, but did notice additional wear on the seatbelt fabric.

I neglected to look at your location when I posted - sorry! I will say "Hi!" to another Aussie though.

However, the info did need to be clarified as the majority of posters here are in the USA.

I pulled my CG off after a day. Just a PITA and not worth the effort. Sitting in my toolbox

using my CG lock for over three years now.. standard on all our driver seat belt MINIs. Use everyday .. it can be tricky with the belt retracting need to fool around a bit to get it just right.. For everyday use it does mark the back of your seat and the pillar but I really like the feel of being in place while driving..
a must if you go for twisty rides, Dragon, and autocross.

I also have a Schroth R4 but while I can use daily a CG lock I won't feel confortable using the harness on the street, particulary with the convertible.

All good points and I will add the the list.........lol

I went with the harness for one reason only....CG does nothing for the upper body. I found myself still hanging on to the wheel too much to keep myself in the seat, during braking especially

it's your feet and hands that do the driving .. not your body ... and keep your body straight when you curve ....use your head!! ...

Love the CG Lock. Have been running it for 3 years now. It's great for everyday use, especially since the Schroth can't be used if you have back seat passengers. And I have a child seat in full time.

I put it on the passenger side as well because it keeps your butt planted--it provides better back support on long drives. I let my wife drive to Vegas in my MINI, and I sat as passenger--and my lower back was killing me in the seat without the CG Lock--so of course I bought a second one. But I leave the clip off of it since most passengers have no clue how to use it and usually end up nearly breaking the CG Lock as they wrestle with it to fasten their belts.

Driving without the CG Lock feels almost as weird as driving without wearing my seatbelt!
