Custom Splitter

Hey guys im designing my own custom splitter and needed a little help. I have two questions.

1 How do you get your M7 splitters to lay flush agaisnt the bumper? Ive been looking underneath and its looking like im going to have to sand down a few ridges under the bumper.

How far back does the M7 splitter go? In pictures it seems like it only extends back a few inches. The one Im designing is going to extend beyond the air dam, Once it is removed.

This is for a non aero bumper.

Mine isn't an M7 and is very different, but I thought you might like the photo. It's from DUZ in Japan. It attaches under the bumper with several bolts.

Thanks for the picture. Im making a template out of sheathing insulating. Once Im happy with the template I will make a fiberglass mold of it and make the final product.
Heres a couple of pics

Is there any benifits from the winglets on the ends of the splitter. Does it reduce turbulent airflow. Or is it just for looks

Very impressive project! The ends of mine wrap around the sides of the lower bumper and make it more secure and integrated into the shape of the car. I don't know if they have an aerodynamic function. This lip is very securely attached and is not flexible or adjustable like the M7 or Mach 5 splitters and doesn't need the suspension hardware which looks like some sort of sailing boat bolt. These photos don't show the holes which were drilled to allow installation. My lip doesn't protrude very far and you need to be careful in this regard otherwise you'll be scraping every bump and driveway. Here are a couple of additional photos which show the bottom and edge. Let me know how you do. The M7 instructions may help you. http://www.m7tuning.com/tech.html

Im planing on only letting it protrude about 2 inches from the bumper. The shape of the splitter is slightly different from the shape of the bumper. The ends will protrude more than the center, 2.5 inches from the bumber instead of 2. What bumper do you have this mounted on? Looks like it would be for the aero bumber. Did you remove the small air dam once you installed the splitter?

Do you think you could take a picture of the mounting setup on the bottom of your splitter? Im guessing the m7 uses all the original hardware for mounting the splitter. did you also remove the small ridge infront of the splitter. It has a few clips which hold onto the splash gaurd.

From [SIZE=2]TAKAYANAGI ISAO at Design-Unit-Zone in Japan. He's one of the top small shop designers in Japan and is famous for his high quality limited production MINI parts. See, http://www.design-unit-zone.com/mini/others.html. He is very easy to work with - just email him if you are interested at takayanagi@design-unit-zone.com. I have generally found the aftermarket parts from Japan to blow the US aftermarket away with a few exceptions.

Thanks Ministupidfun. I like your snowplow. Where did you get it? I use mine to collect leaves this time of year.

Well After griding the surface of my splitter I realized the sides were not semetrical.

Now the two sides are within a milimeter of each other and I think it looks pretty good. Once I finish the shaping the wheel well portion of the splitter it will potrude slightly less.

As of right now it extends back about four inches past the front tires.

I like what you have so far. Any plans to add side plates?
