Don't think you can. It's required by law on vehicles equipted with Xenon headlights.

Besides, you don't gain anything from disabling them, why bother?

you know what the problem is?
i keep getting highbeamed by on coming traffic.
maybe they think i constantly highbeaming them,
while in actuality, it's just my self leveling headlight working.

is this true or am i just "tripping"?

thanks mbabischkin,

You need to adjust your low beams down a little. In normal driving they should never ( or rarely) jump above the car in front of you's trunk. At 15 ft they should be about 2-3 in below level. To measure this, pull right up to a wall, mark where the lights hit with masking tape, back up about 15 ft ( this should be on level or flat ground) and the light should be about 2-3 inches below the tape. The adjustment screws are on the back of each headlight. One marked 'U' for up, 'D' for down; and one marked 'L' for left and 'R' for right. Careful, about 1/4 turn will move them about an inch.

I had the opposite problem - pionted too low - they hit the pavement about 35 ft in fron of the car.

Good Luck

Chris

yep, I had the same problem too, but the light being too low. The level adjuster contraption will actually benefit incoming cars, because everytime you slam the throttle, the nose climbs a tiny bit(on minis because of their wonderful weight balance) And the self leveling light compensates for that. When you brake, the light will do the opposite, since the mini has a miniscule nose dive, that compensation will be so minimal its almost impossible to notice. But I love the Free thinking headlights. Some rally lights to blind the bozos who think our light is too high is definetely a nice touch. One of my friends was driving in front for about 200 miles on a road trip, and he loved the fact my xenons never blinded him.

I have the self leveling headlights and they point down too much. I tried to adjust using the up-down ***** but the leveling system just pointed them down again. Is ther some trick to the adjustment? Please help if you can.

I just think that other drivers aren't used to the Xenon's and flash you becsaue of the different colored light. The headlights are probably fine.

The self leveling lights really need to be adjusted by a dealer. They use a special tool to be able to adjust them with the bonnet closed. If you use the manual adjuster screws too much, you may end up burning out the leveling motor if the motor tries to level and is near the limit of the travel. You can use the manual screws for some minute adjustments I think, but I would do no more than 1/2 turn (at your own risk). be careful of the high tension voltage!!!!
Mine were pointed too low, about 20 ft in front of car. I had the dealer adjsut them and they were too high, but not much. I turned the manual screws 1/2 turn down with hood open and lights off. They are fine now. As others have pointed out, the leveling is required by law for all xenons. They are so bright, that they would seriously blind oncoming traffic if pointed too high, a safety issue. You should never disable the leveling, since when you have more passengers in the back or a load, you will point higher and would blind traffic without the leveling system.
However, in terms of others flahsing you because they think you have your hi-beams on: that may alsways be a problem with Xenons, as they are very bright. Even when properly leveled I find mine occasionally bouncing high when I go over a bump, an doncoming traffic will think I am flashing them. Oh well. Overall, I like them. Nevertheless, have yours checked by a dealer!
