>>Speaking from experience there is no way to guarantee the paperclip will stay put.
>>
>>Lets look at it this, a person uses the pape clip and does not get the plug seated and it pops off, (could happen) and with no tape or protection on the paperclip the first time the brake is applied it WILL short out, maybe just a fuse will blow but the wiring could be damaged also.
>>
>>I look at this mod like I look at all things, a paperclip is not a good way to go. I have had a few people that have done the paperclip method get a kit from me. So I am not the only one that thinks the paperclip is temporary.

See, that's why I get defensive... I've had this for quite some time.. (throughout the winter..) drove down brick roads many a time, and no problems, ever. There's nothing to short out. Period. Even if it does fall out, how will one side fall out and touch something that would cause a short while the other side is still in? It's not possible.

And hey, if you can sell a $12 bag filled with $.50 of parts, more power to you, but when FUD is used to sell anything (ideas included), it makes my blood boil.

so you're ok with the paperclip, thats fine. some of us aren't. having a basic knowledge of wiring and lighting i opted to splice the wires and connect them with a single wire. it all comes down to comfort. you shouldn't get defensive if you like to walk in the street and others prefer to take the sidewalk.

Actually, when I first did it, I was going to eventually go to radio shack, and use some wire to do it the 'proper' method (w/o splicing the wires, I don't like doing anything invasive to a car's wiring... ) but when I realized how well the paperclip method worked, I didn't see the point... Either way, I'm just trying to make sure that people know that it's quick and easy (and 11 bux cheaper) to do it themselves, and there's many methods discussed on here, and other MINI sites....

and sure, i'm walking in the street, but it's CLOSED! no traffic! just as safe as the $12 sidewalk area!

The choice is just that a choice, you can choose the paperclip, or my method. I am not holding a gun to anyones' head, I am offering a choice. For those that are unsure and want a safe method I have the solution.

BTW, it costs more than a dollar to produce and I ship for free....

Enjoy the street........hey look out here comes the bus.
