Modding the Aero Bumper Cover

A few weeks back I had an incident that ripped a portion of the bumper cover from the Mini.

Since I have the opportunity to learn from the initial install we are going about it a little differently this time.

Being the core support has holes I figured why not open the area behind the middle grill to allow for more air flow.

The cut out section

Hanging on the front, this should allow for more air flow over the radiator.

Since the Mini is in the shop and we'll be pulling out the paint guns and I can't leave well enough alone and I happened to have one of these just laying around....

Here is the start of something......

I had thought about opening up the middle grille as well. I may try it on my stock bumper cover, but have been thinking about getting an aero front. Thanks for the pics.

BTW, if you're thinking about venting that hood, the ones from an X5 would go good, plus they have a washer nozzle molded in.

I'm interested to see how this turns out. Are you going to put the splitter back on or leave it off this time?

Just got my aero kit in today and I'm going to do this to the middle grill to get more airflow since I'm putting on 4 Hella 500's. Time to get this sucker painted and installed!

Dry fitted the Splitter today and did a little more trimming.

No more lip at the back of the splitter.

Cut away the center portion above the splitter to allow free airflow. Still needs a little love with the grinding wheel for a smooth transition.

Has anymore ever come of this project?

I would love to see the finished result of the modified Aero bumper.

Man that thing is just sick! Now, you just need to get some wider fenders on that thing and it "should" be complete...or close
