Thanks for the compliments....I like it a lot. I think it looks a lot more agressive and not one person on here has anything thing bad to say about it.
I went to PepBoys and bought their 1 3/8 inch blackout tape down their "decal" isle. The tape is a bit flexible which really helped on the curves. The roll was about 6 bucks and it was about 6 feet long. Plenty to spare.
I cleaned the surfaces with simple green to get all the dirt and grim off and then I laid the tape down, without taking anything off the car. I started in the middle and worked to the sides. I wrapped the ends around the grills slots and so far its all sticking with no problems. I made sure there were no bubbles and then slowly cut the edges with a razor.
The hardest part was around the light mounts but it wasnt too bad. I just had to cut a semi-circle around the brackets.
So far, the car has been washed twice, gone through a week of showers and it still looks new. I do live in FL, so it might fade in the summer, but for 6 bucks and 1.5hrs of my time, I can have a new grill in no time.

Black vinyl FTW! I love the satin finish and the contrast looks great, particularly with ligh(er) or brightly colored cars. This was one of the first MODsI did on my Hot Orange, and was one of my favorites. The tape lasts about 1.5-2 years, but will eventually need to be redone as rocks and other debris take its toll... Luckily the process does not take very long, as you discovered, nor it is exppensive.
Just out of curiosity - where did you find blackout tape in that thickness? I had to buy a sheet of satin-finish sign vinyl and cut it into strips myself...
