debadging S side markers

Has anyone debadged the "S" from their chrome side markers? Lots of people debadge the wings, but I'm curious if one could debadge the side markers. I am thinking this may hover somewhere between difficult and impossible, but thought I'd ask for insight / ideas.

*edit* I guess the real question is, does anyone know if they are affixed with adhesive or riveted on?

they come off fairly easily! I had to remove them to paint the chrome!

Ahhh, but the R53 and the R56 side badges are 2 totally different animals.

From what I can tell when I took mine off, the side marker itself is easy to take off, just slide forward, but as for the S, I believe the side marker is just one piece and therefore cannot be taken off. I might be wrong, look for my thread on what I did to get rid of the S as best as I could w/o going with the weird cooper markers.

In the event anyone was wondering....

I took one apart, and the S is molded into the plastic of the side marker. So you can't take it off. Not a huge deal, just thought I'd share what I learned.

Lol, I do care and indeed will share.

These are up for sale on e-bay UK every so often. Many owners have tried getting them for MINI direct as they are genuine parts, but MINI UK do not 'officially' endorse these. Whether these ar for certain markets only, or more likely as these were first seen on the 2008 Challenge car, MINI don't want them out yet !.

I paid £30 + £4 P&p for the pair, which is really cheap. They are slightly dearer now though.

The Cooper ones are slightly less hideous than the Cooper S ones, so I bought a set to help with the dechroming process

hey japper,

those are sweet! I have a cooper (non s) but prefer the chrome over the black. I was trying to take the s off since they wouldn't be going on an s, which is why I started the post. I've not seen the ones you have before.

I do know that when a non-s is optioned from the factory with the hypersport aero kit, the black side markers are swapped for chrome ones. I wonder if they are what you have. Might explain why Mini doesn't want to sell them outright - takes away from the exclusivity factor.

either way, they're very cool!

When the Clubman comes out, MINI is going to release some cool options for the side vents of the R56. I saw a photo a while ago of a nice red/blue Union Jack overlay.

I think you are indeed correct about these being part of the hypersport kit on US models. I have seen them somewhere else on here on a US car with hypersport kit.
