Guess I should do the search thing, in case this has been covered, but laziness prevents me. Have the roof rack and it whistles, no screams, so loudly that it is impossible to drive between 3 and 65 mph with the sunroof open. Does anyone else who has the rack have this problem? Looked at another one on the street the other day and the base seems to sit almost firmly on the roof. Mine has about a 2mm gap that may be causing the problem. Am tired of the Mini SF guys telling me it is just the rack, all of them, and they can do nothing to fix the problem. Suggestions, comments?

I have the rack but no sunroof, had a whistle too. I saw a post here or other boards can't remember but it said to take the rubber trim out of the top of the rack i found that it worked, give it a try.
good luck

I have the roof rack. With the rubber trim on or off, there is a very very slight whistle that you must listen for carefully to hear (roof open or closed). Even with two Thule bike racks mounted, the wind noise for the rack is much less than on my wife's 330xi. Overall, it's remarkably quiet. I don't have a pronounced gap where the "feet" attach to the roof.

yep, mine had the roof whistle too, loud enough to hear with the windows up while at highway speeds. i think the manager told me to plug the ends of the racks with something. this way the air isn't allowed to flow through the small space between the rubber trim and the metal. i guess you could just as well take out the rubber trim also.

i just put on some rack padding full length, since i use the racks to strap down my surfboards anyway. and just so happened it stopped the noise also.

It's a people whistle. Like the deer whistle people can't hear, this is really a people whistel that the deer can't hear. It keeps jaywalkers from running in front of your car on the backroads. Another free safey device from the wonderful folks at BMW.
