I stand corrected. I don't believe those were released for sale to the public when I did my interior (2004). I was always under the impression that the Milano was the seat used. Learn something new everyday.

OK. SO I have officially decided to commit to buying racing seats. The last question is exactly which ones to buy. I'm rather certain that I want fixed back. So far these have been the seats I am looking at:
Sparco Fighter - (In all black though)
S68 Bucket
I'm definitely leaning heavily towards the sparco's.
My only remaining concern is the install. When I get the seats, I'll see if the dealer can "deprogram" the side airbags, and weight mat, so that I will not have any lights, and still have the functioning passenger airbags, without having to do the resistor mod. (<-A great suggestion by PGT-thanks!)
Hopefully that will workout well.
Then I just need to have a harness setup fabbed up. Due to my rear section of the car being a bit occupied by an audio setup, I don't think I'd be able to get a bolt-in harness bar back there. We'll see though.
I can't wait. I've always wanted racing seats and harnesses.

S68 Bucket - http://www.memoryfab.com/products/detail_accessories_2/#
I'm just not sure about the s68 brackets, as I emailed them about whether or not they had the right bracket and slider setup for the Mini, but no response yet.
The sparco's have the all the corresponding brackets, sliders, and new hardware.

i just finished installing my Cobra fixed back seats. it wasn't easy. it took a tool/die maker, a MINI tech, myself, a 12-pack, and some forbidden words to accomplish. worth every bit of it, however. if using Sparco's, check out http://www.livermoreperformance.com/...html#autopower, for some nice fitment options. if you can buy a direct bolt-in bracket, get it! my wide *** required the GT version of the cobra seat and fabrication was inevitable. now off to Race Car Builders of South Florida for a roll/harness bar, harness anchor points, etc.....check fitment carefully. i did and it was still very tight. i have more adjustment than required fore and aft. i'll post some pics when i have a chance.

For one thing, in the two years that have passed since that thread was active we've seen a lot more seats available that are affordable (somewhat) and pass FIA specs. Often the lower grade models of the same seat design that passed FIA approval are covered in a cloth that does not offer the same flame retardant capabilities but the basic shell is the same.
Not only are Sparco, Racaro, Corbau (sp) and othere expanding their range but they are expanding their seats. Good for us less then svelte drivers.

I have the Sparco Modena seats and love them. They are very comfortable and offer great support. Also, they don't require a lubricant to get in and out of. If you are going for a mixed use seat (street and track), I would suggest a seat with some sort of adjustability. Fixed back seats are great for the track, but would drive me crazy after a while.

You can also take another approach that is guaranteed to fit, retains the stock adjusters, airbags, and seat heaters, and won't get the car stolen...
Take the car to your local Kustom Upholstery Shoppe and have a discussion about reshaping the stock seats to suit your interests.
They will remove the skin, add foam to what's there (or remove it) and shape it to suit you. Then you go in for a "fitting" to make sure it's just right.
Once you approve the changes in the foam, they cut out the outside fabric panels, cut new replacements to fit over the new foam, and put it all back together looking like a much-better-shaped OEM seat.
My local shop quoted me $500/ seat for the bolster changes I wanted, to narrow the back of my drivers seat for much more lateral support. It's going in next week.

Please do not buy a seat without sitting in it first.
The name might be right, the look might be right... but if it doesn't fit you, who cares?
There have been two seats I was all set to buy, and both of them were wrong for me. Thankfully, I have a somewhat local (3 hours away) shop that has lots of seats set up for you to test-sit. It would have been a very expensive mistake to buy before trying.
