Schroth harness, need help with rear tail strap install

I've found instructions for the 2006 MSC and am following them (see picture.) For the rear, it says to use the Schroth bolt. First put on the Schroth washer, the Schroth tail strap, the Schroth spacer and then the MINI belt.

The problem is that there is no way that I can torque this down beyond about 10lbs (let alone the recomended 30lbs) before the Schroth tail strap starts spinning around and will not stay in the correct spot.

Ideas? I tried to jam a piece of wood under it to stop it from spinning, but due the curves of car interior at that point, I find that is not working.

Thanks

I know what you mean. Mine did the same for me. It may take a few tries. Have the piece pointing away from the place you want it to be. As you tighten it will move to the right & if all goes well end up where you want it at final torque. Like I said it may take a few tries, but it will work.

Thanks Crashton, I may have to resort to that.

Another idea I had was to put a little WD40 where the washer is (near the top of the bolt, not on the threads). That may be just enough to stop the tail from turning. I also want to try some different pieces of wood. I should be able to wedge something in there to keep it from turning.

Maybe if some more suggestions come in, and my attitude improves, I'll have better luck tomorrow

Sometimes it's better to walk away & have a go tomorrow. You'll get it.

Well by using all three approaches (pre-positioning, WD40, wood wedge), I got the bracket correctly installed. I'd like to know the secret installation procedure others have used. I remember in reading past posts that someone did it in 10 minutes!

Now I can't wait for the next event when I get to use them

You will enjoy being held firmly in your seat. I don't use mine on the street, but on track I love them.
