Interior/Exterior Dreadful Dash Disassembly Dilemma
Dreadful Dash Disassembly Dilemma
Hi I posted this question in the Electrical section but no response.
I'm installing the factory driving lights ( all done except running the wiring and the switch. Is there a pdf with instructions on how to take apart the dash in order to replace the "knee guard" with the new one that has the button/switch on it?
I'm getting so frustrated I don't want to have to go to the dealer unless I have to. They are so expensive and I have the time to do it but not the knowledge.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Start taking apart everything.
I had a tech at Harrison's install mine on Friday and it took him a long time to figure it all out (their first R56 light install).
He had the trim above the tach off, the piece all the way on the left of the dash that butts to the door, the panels below, the door threshold, and did the switch last.
You'll love those lights. I went out in the mountains Saturday night and took the darkest backroads there are.
Wow. Light. Good.

designerMINI, Give this a try:
First remove the trim above the knee guard. It pops forward toward the driver. It's takes some force...
Once the trim is off, remove the one screw holding the drivers side plastic vent cover.
Next pop off the plastic cover on the left side of the dash (the one that faces the door). Use a wide thin tool. Once removed, you'll see two screws that hold the plastic vent cover to the dash.
With those three screws off, you should be able to gently lift (or bend) upward the vent cover (there is still one remaining screw holding the vent cover to the a-pillar - no need to remove it).
Now, remove the large plastic panel under the knee guard. There are three screws at the bottom holding it in place. Once the screws are removed, the plastic panel pops forward. There are two clips holding that piece in place.
That should expose a few screws holding the knee guard in place. One of the top screws is sorta hidden behind the vent cover... but you should see it. I think there are two on top and two on the bottom.
Enjoy!

YEAH!!!!
Hey Paul your directions were absolutely PERFECT!!!!!
I got the switch installed and I'll proceed with MINI's instructions on the wiring in the morning. That was a HUGE help I really do appreciate it.
