I'll see if I can get the idea of a vendor feedback rating system into the suggestion box.

It is always something, so of course I now need a new tire. As fate would have it, as soon as my wrench socket and key broke (OK, a few days later) I hit one of those sneaky potholes that you can't see until it is too late and my sidewall now has a blister that is already expanding. Fortunately, I have tire insurance. I already had a screw go through one about a month or so ago, so this will be my second tire replaced for road damage in less than 13 months. Seems like a good deal in retrospect, as the last tire was over $350 installed. However, of course I am sitting here wondering where my replacement key is (and wrench socket) and I haven't heard anything since speaking with Bryce (which I think was Tuesday) who said these were both being replaced. So, of course I wrote him tonight asking what is up and telling him if not already sent, these replacements must go out this Monday, overnight, so I can get the tire replaced by Wednesday. We will see, but even before this actually became urgent, I would have hoped it was treated as an urgent matter by PU. Maybe it was and these items are already on their way to me, but am I expecting too much to think I should have already received some sort of notification (a telephone call or message or e-mail)? Remember, I spoke with Bryce on Tuesday, so even if he didn't get these out that day, what about Wednesday or Thursday or even today and if it was any of these days, why no heads up?

OK, lastly, here is Bryce's own quote from his e-mail (see post #56 from this thread):

"I will send you a new Uber Key and socket to replace the ones damaged by the air tools tuesday."

Am I expecting too much or is annoyance justified?

Anyone know why the post-counter sometimes repeats #'s? See my two above and this is not the first time this has happened. It may not even be the first time within this thread! I wonder what number this one will be.

^^^^^^^^

OK, I get it (and I feel like a dunce). The post counter updates all a member's posts to reflect the current total number of posts. As Homer might say, "Doh!"

Also, when a member updates his signature, the new signature shows up on *all* of his posts, all the way back to the very first one. It's funny to be reading a post from 2002 or 2003 and seeing a brand-new MINI in the signature.

blackie, most tire shops have the ability to remove locking lugs. They have a special tool for the job. It will screw them up so you might want to bring 4 of the originals with you.

May I ask why you run those lugs? They seem like a royal pain in the butt to me.

If PU does get you the tool in time disregard this.

Are the lugs actually "locking lug nuts", where each set of nuts has a unique pattern, or are they just spline-drive tuner lugs? Most tire shops have a pretty wide variety of sockets to fit various lug nuts. When I had new tires put on my car last time, I gave the shop manager the socket for the lugnuts I got with my TSW lug conversion kit (I think they're Muteki nuts), but they didn't need it, because they already had the appropriate socket for those nuts.

this is nothing more than a Gorilla bolt/lock/wrench set with PU stickers and 100% markup.

You can call Gorilla directly (323) 585-2852 to get a key or summitracing.com carries them as well (and ships very, very quickly but they are out of stock - only $4.69 for it). Looks like the P/N you need is 1719LKEY

Oh. My. God.

If I got a comment like that back, I'd be telling him to keep his POS key and socket, pack up everything I'd ever bought from them, ship it back, and make a claim with my credit card company. There is NO WAY I would ever put up with that kind of sh*t from a vendor. EVER.

That's what I was thinking they were. Thanks for the confirmation. IMO the Gorilla brand stuff it of a very low quality.

I dont see why there are people out there still buying this crap, i have seen nothing but bad reviews and poor quality products from PU. If we just stop buying it that will solve the issues. Why does anyone need Tuner Lugs? Whats wrong with the factory lugs?

I don't know why they buy from them. That is a puzzlement.

Some people buy tuner lugs because they need them. Some wheels don't have enough room at the lug nut hole for a traditional socket to fit in there. With the tuner lugs you get around that problem. I ran into the same thing when I put Panasports on my Miata. My fix was a set of spline drives from McGard. A very nicely made product. Nothing like the rebranded PU tuner lugs.

yup....SplineDrives are what I've used on every car I've owned for years. The Gorilla copies of them rusted in less than a month....sounds similar to PU huh?

Could we expect anything else at this point?

I wonder if this theory of it really being a just set of Gorilla lugs and a Gorilla socket wrench can be proven. If so, that would seem to be some pretty darn damaging evidence. I would feel pretty foolish if this were proven to be true! I think the larger NAM community though ought to be informed. On the one hand PU is getting labeled here as a clandestine purchaser of very inferior goods, relabelling them, and then gouging the marketplace with the visual similarity as the only proof. On the other hand, if this is untrue, no matter what is a personal opinion from many in this thread, PU deserves to have their name cleared. Does anyone have the forensic skill to test and prove?

It is the same as the gorilla piece. I've now seen both of them together and it is a simple case of rebadging and multiplying the price by a significant factor.
