Interior/Exterior Painting Advice Needed
Painting Advice Needed
I recently picked up a Whalen **** and the toggle loops from the body shop. I had them painted Astro Black, like the rest of my interior. I spent countless hours working on the Whalen. There are lots of things that must be done in order for everything to work properly. I sprayed everything with primer only to realize there was something else to account for...which meant I had to wet sand the primer off, modify things, and retry. I did this 10-15 times. I've been working on this project on and off for about 2 months. After getting it back from being painted I made further mistakes, which I can learn from. I decided to cover the finish in resin in order to protect it. Well, I didn't realize how easy resin is to scratch, and on top of that, anything that touches it seems to etch into it. I'm scratching this **** off as a total loss, and I'm going to start over. Don't worry....I got the first know really cheap. Well, see what happens now, but that one is finished. I know exactly how to prepare the **** now. My question is, what kind of finish will be more durable? I know the body shop used up the last of their AB mixture. I suppose they can mix some more for one little ****, but I assume it will be fairly expensive considering that's the only part I'll need painted. How much would it cost to have it powder coated? And how durable is it? Is there anything else out there? Thanks in advance. BTW...Once I'm finished, I'll post instructions on how to paint a Whalen for those who are interested. It's harder than it seems.
